Christmas Decoration Making! 19 December – PM

Last Wednesday we set about making some beautiful decorations to adorn our Christmas tree in the Lexis Byron reception!

Orla led the morning session and explains how you can make your own, here on her blog: https://lexisbyronbay.com/2018/12/19/christmas-decoration-making-morning-19-december/

The most important thing to remember, and which I kept repeating to the students, is ‘two down, one up’! It’s very easy and relaxing once you get into it!

Check out the wonderful creations made by our students…

Ana is from Madrid, Spain. She loves going out with friends, discovering new music and taking photos. She studied Psychology at university and worked as a Human Resources specialist. She also did an internship in a hospital, helping children with social disabilities. She decided to study in Australia so she could learn about other cultures and enjoy the wonderful nature here!

Anselmo is from Italy. His passions include cooking, drawing and listening to music. In his summer vacations he enjoys going sailing. His mum and dad are both architects and design furniture, and he has worked in their office for the past 2 years. There are many reasons why he chose Australia for his studies and he is very happy to be here for the next 17 weeks!

Maria is from Chile. She loves hiking, going to the beach, traveling and meeting new people. She studies Law at university and is taking a short break before she finishes her last year and finds a job. She chose to study English in Australia because it is a beautiful country full of good vibes and people!

Pol is from Spain. He lives close to the beach and loves water sports. He has also been skating for 6 years. He has just finished High School and started  a degree in International Commerce. He has worked for a phone company for the past 3 years but has just quit to learn English to help him find a better job!

Jack is from Belgium. His hobbies are sports and traveling. He wants to study International Business and Management, which is taught in English, so first he will join us for 15 weeks to improve his level. He chose Australia for his studies because it is far from his country and a good growing experience for him.

Tomas is from Spain. He loves all types of sports, particularly skiing, surfing, paddling and sailing. His other passion is traveling, and that’s what brings him to the other side of the world to learn English! In his short time in Australia he says it has already made a big impression on him and he is very excited to be here!

Maria is from Spain. She loves swimming, listening to music and writing. She studied Dentistry at university and then a Masters in oral surgery. She has worked as a dentist for the past 4 years but has now decided to take a break here in Australia! She will study with us for 6 months and would then like to return to Spain and open her own dental clinic with her sister.

Karsten is from Germany. He has just transferred to us from Lexis Brisbane. He will only be with us for 1 week but is looking forward to learning to surf during this time and improve his English further! He goes straight into Claudia’s Upper Intermediate class.

Body Boarding! 29 November

Last Thursday I took a group of our students down to the beach for some free body board hire, courtesy of the lovely team at Let’s Go Surfing!

The girls all had their bikes to cycle down to the beach and, not wanting to leave me trailing behind walking, Lara convinced me to jump on the back of her bike! It is up there as one of my most terrifying experiences and I’m pretty sure she was going in the potholes on purpose, however in between the squeals of terror there was also lots of laughter and much quicker than going by foot!

The girls posed for some photos before heading into the surf 🙂

The weather was glorious so there was no need for wetsuits and the girls jumped straight into the beautiful blue ocean!

It looked so much fun jumping and riding the waves, I’ll definitely be joining them next time!

Happy Hour with Happy Travels! 14 November

On Wednesday the awesome team at Happy Travels treated our students to a Happy Hour, which included free pizza, punch and prizes!

International DJ Mr Ha.Yes provided the music while the students enjoyed their free lunch and tropical punch.

Lexis’ Happy Travels specialist Sarah (who you can find in the student lounge on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays between 12pm and 3pm) collected everyone’s names to enter them into a draw for a Great Barrier Reef Trip!!

Well done to Camila Romero Gonzalez for winning this amazing prize!!

There were more winners from the goon pong, with two of our students winning a kayaking with dolphins and Nimbin day trip!

Coffee Club!

Tuesday’s regular Coffee Club activity continues to be a great source of laughter, conversations and, of course, Tim Tams!

Uno is normally the game of choice, but in recent weeks we’ve also enjoyed some jenga with questions and general chit chat.

It’s always a fun-filled hour, especially when Eric is there providing entertainment with his singing and silliness!

One week soon we’ll be switching the coffee for ice cream; more of a treat for this beautiful warm summer weather!

Coffee Club is every Tuesday at 11.30am and 2pm 🙂 Hope to see you there!
