Yesterday’s activity was a soccer match against Byron Bay English Language School (BBELS). This is always a fun activity where students get to meet new people, practice English and have a ball (pun intended) while doing it!
Check out the photos below.
TEAM LEXIS!
Having a rest at half time!
Each half was played for 25 minutes, which on such a hot day, is long enough! In the end, TeamLexis came out on top 1-0 but both teams equaled in effort. Well done everyone!
Looking forward to the next match.

Wednesday afternoon we had our scheduled Soccer match against Byron Bay English Language School (BBELS). On this particular afternoon it was also Chilean Independence Day. To celebrate, the students decided to cook a BBQ and enjoy some traditional Chilean music at the student accommodation.. It was a great celebration, but sadly, this meant that not many students were up for playing soccer..
Lucky for us, BBELS had a great turn out and those students who were keen to play could still enjoy a game. We started by choosing our teams, mixing the Lexis students with the BBELS. It was a fantastic game to watch, as there were many skilled players.
We played four 15 minute quarters. Naoki scored the last goal to make the final score 4 all.. Of course we couldn’t finish on a tie so we had one more 10 minute tie breaker round which was intense to watch.
On the walk home we meet this cute little guy who just topped off the lovely afternoon!
Thanks to our awesome students who made it down to play. We will have another game next month against BBELS, and possibly a beach volleyball game as well. Keep an eye on the activity calendar for more information 🙂

We had another beautiful sunny afternoon for our regular soccer match against Byron Bay English Language School this week.
Naoki, Nanami, Sagiri, Patricia and Marisa made up our team and we also had Max and Moon from BBELS to balance out the numbers.
It was a very fun game to watch. The score remained close throughout the entire game. In the final quarter BBELS scored 3 goals making the end total 11-8 to them.
Thanks to everyone who played and those who came down to support.
Great game guys. See you all again for our next match on Wednesday 31st July at 2.30pm.

Yesterday afternoon we had our regular friendly soccer match against Byron Bay English Language School.
The ground was still a little wet from all the rain we have been having lately but it didn’t stop us from running around and enjoying the beautiful sunshine!
Our superstar Sagiri turned up just as the game was beginning and scored Lexis’ first goal! Well done Sagiri, we all love your enthusiasm on the field!!
The second goal was scored by the wonderful Lousie and the third goal was scored by the skilled Nanami!! Woohoooo GIRL POWER!
We also had the fierce Gabbi on the field defending the ball and Naoki and Dave out there showing us how it is done!!
It was another great game to watch! Well done Lexis!
The final score was 4 – 3 with BBELS winning this game! Our next match will be on Wednesday 17th at 2.30pm!

Yesterday afternoon we had our highly anticipated re-match against BBELS.
When we played last time it was a disappointing loss for Lexis. After a close game, BBELS scored the winning goal in the final 5 minute tiebreaker.
Enrique was our designated captain for yesterdays game. He took it upon himself to get us motivated by practicing a New Zealand haka. The haka is a type of ancient Māori war dance traditionally used on the battlefield, as well as when groups came together in peace. You will often see New Zealand sports team perform a haka before a game.
Great enthusiasm from the students! I had stitches from laughing so hard!
The students had some warm up exercises before the match started and lucky for us we also had the loudest support crew!
With all of our shouting we managed to attract a new friend.. The adorable Cookie!!
He was definitely ‘Team Lexis’!!
The match went on as the sun began to set.
After 15 minute quarters we were all exhausted. Thank you Captain Enrique for keeping us enthusiastic! Unfortunately it was another close game, with BBELS taking the win with a final goal in the closing minutes. The final score was 4-3. Hard luck Lexis.
It was still a great afternoon. Thank you to everyone who played and came down to support!
Keep an eye on next months activities calendar to see when our next match will be.

Yesterday afternoon we all gathered out the front of the school to walk down to the soccer field together. Our nominated captain Tommaso led the way.
We arrived early so had some time to relax in the shade before our opponents arrived..
Those who were very keen began to warm up..
There was a little bit of confusion about what field we would play on, but as soon as Max and the students from BBELS arrived they pointed us in the right direction.
We had a solid team from the beginning.. and more talented players continued to arrive throughout the game.
With the other team only having 8 players in the beginning we started off playing 8 a side for 12 minute quarters.
The first quarter set the tone for a very fast paced, competitive game!
The score at the end of the first half was 2 – 0 to BBELS. The scores evened out in the third quarter and Lexis scored a goal in the final minute to bring the sore to 3 all.
By this stage Team Lexis had a large crowd to cheer them on!
We played on for another 5 minutes to determine a winner.. no body scored! So with another 5 minutes on the clock it was a tense match, but BBELS managed to fluke a goal leaving the final score 5-4.
Special mention to Jvana, who played excpetionally well, representing the female students from Lexis. Go girl!!
It was a great game. Thank you to everyone who played! You were all amazing. Looking forward to the rematch Wednesday 22nd May at 3.30pm!
