A very warm welcome to our new starters this week at Lexis Byron Bay!
Celine is from Switzerland. When at home horse riding and playing the harp are her passions but she is very excited about taking surf lessons while here in Byron. She has come to Australia to better her English, meet new people, and also experience the culture! Celine has been working in a restaurant at home to earn money to pay for university which starts next year but is unsure whether she will study psychology or economics.
Martina is from Italy. She comes from a small village in the north of Italy called Bellagio which is near Lake Como. She lives with her mum and her cat but travels a lot for work. Martina studied to become a pastry chef. Her work is hard but she loves to make dessert and see the end result! When she’s not working she loves to travel, going for walks, and taking photos. She has come here to travel and improve her English. She is hoping to return in the future and work.
Christian is from Switzerland. When he finished high school he did a 2-year apprenticeship as a car mechanic but had to quit as he was required to join the Swiss army. He loves to play football and plays with his village club twice a week. He also loves hanging out with his friends. Christian has family in Australia and wanted to meet them and see how they live. He would like to travel around Australia and New Zealand after he finishes at Lexis Byron Bay and when he returns home he will study to become a teacher!
Lars is also from Switzerland. He has come to Lexis Byron Bay to further his English skills and hopefully travel around Australia after his studies. In the future would like to travel to Nepal and China. His love is football and he is a supporter of FC Zurich where he has a season pass.

Maya is from Switzerland. She lives with her parents in a small village called Reigoldswil and her two sisters live near-by. Her hobbies are singing and playing the alp horn which is a typical Swiss instrument. This summer, Maya finished her apprenticeship as a medical assistant and has been working in a surgery with 5 doctors. She needs English for her job and is hoping that she will achieve a better level of English after her trip to Australia.
Joëlle is from Switzerland. She finished an apprenticeship in retail sales where her main role was to serve customers. She has a younger brother and a step sister who are both 17. In her free time she likes to practice aerobics and in winter go skiing with her family. Joëlle is in Australia to better her English and will hopefully travel once she has finished at Lexis Byron Bay.
Valeria is from Spain. She has 3 older brothers and her father is from Argentina. Her family own a hotel in Spain where she works. Valeria chose to study English in Australia and believes it’s the most amazing county. Her passion is surfing but is also here because of the culture, animals, beaches, and people. She wants to improve her English and enjoy the experience while here.
Nadin is from Switzerland. She lives in a small town called Graubunden which, is famous for being the highest town in Europe. She lives in an apartment with her sister and loves to mountain bike and go hiking on the weekends. After school she worked as a painter for 3 years but in winter she worked in a restaurant on top of a mountain. Nadin is here to learn English and after 6 weeks at Lexis Byron Bay she will move to Sydney.
Xenia is from Spain. She will be studying English at Lexis Byron Bay for the next 8 months. She also loves to spend time with her friends, photography, travel, and reading! Xenia studied early childhood and worked in a kindergarten for the last two years. While in Australia she will hopefully work out her next venture in life.
Mutsumi is from Japan. She is interested in the Byron lifestyle and environment which is why she chose to study English at Lexis Byron Bay . She will be here for 24 weeks and is hoping to improve her English so she can go back to Japan and find a good job. Mutsumi loves to go to the beach and listening to music but also likes jogging, cycling, nature and travelling.
Marta is from Spain. She lives with her Parents and sister in Valencia. She studied nutrition at University and later worked as a nutritional specialist in a health centre. Her favourite sport is cross fit because it’s such a hard sport! She wants to improve her English so she can travel the world without so many problems and is hoping to find a job once she’s graduated from Lexis Byron Bay.

Roman is from Spain and graduates from Ellie and Anji’s IELTS class. He has been a pleasure to teach in class. He asks intelligent questions to further his understanding of the English language, especially in reading tasks. He has worked well to improve while studying at Lexis Byron Bay and will no doubt continue to improve his fluency as he keeps speaking English. Delphine is from Switzerland and graduates from Michelle’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has been a great student over the past four weeks. She has improved her English, particularly her grammar and speaking skills, and will easily progress to Intermediate level with continued study. Enjoy using your new language skills as you travel!
Franny is from the Dominican Republic and graduates from Michelle’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has been a pleasure to have in class over the past two weeks. Her grammar and speaking skills have improved during that time and will surely continue with her onward travels. All the best for your next adventure!
Maya is from Japan and graduates from Michelle’s Pre-Intermediate class. After starting in the Elementary class twelve weeks ago, she now graduates with a B+ grade and a solid Pre-Intermediate level of English. She has shown a great commitment to learning which has helped her make dramatic improvements to her grammar and speaking skills over the past couple of months. Jenny is from Korea and graduates from Michelle’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has improved her English skills during her four weeks at Lexis Byron Bay and would soon be ready to move up to the Intermediate level with continued study. Her questions, communication skills and contributions have been valuable for the whole class. Best of luck for the future!
Gaetan is from Belgium and graduates from Michelle’s Pre-Intermediate class. He has been an excellent student over the past six weeks. He has made great improvements to his grammar and writing skills, and has gained confidence in speaking. Maito is from Japan and graduates from Claudia’s Upper Intermediate class. He is a dedicated and hardworking student who has put in a lot of effort over the past few months. His English has improved a lot since he first started at Lexis Byron Bay in the Elementary class, particularly in his vocabulary and speaking skills. We wish you all the best for your future!
Othman is from Saudi Arabia and graduates from Mel and Becky’s Elementary class. His English has improved in all areas, particularly his pronunciation, over the past 16 weeks of studying at Lexis Byron Bay. He has applied himself to his studies in recent weeks which is reflected in his excellent test results and lately has been the first student with the correct answer to any questions. He has participated well in class discussions and at the morning Lexis activities which has helped him to improve his speaking skills. Enjoy your next two months in Brisbane and remember to keep speaking English as much as possible!
Shiori is from Japan and graduates from Mel and Becky’s Elementary class. She has been a pleasure to have in class. Over the past four weeks she has worked hard to improve her English skills in all areas. In particular, she has made great progress with her grammar skills which is reflected in her test results each week. Dominique is from Switzerland and has a younger sister called Sabrina. He likes to go mountain biking and also enjoys programming computers. He is working as an Electronics and Systems Engineer for an IT company. He came to Lexis Byron Bay to study English because the people of Australia are nice and easy-going.
Manuel is from Switzerland and Portugal – he has dual citizenship. He is an only child and his parents live in Porto, Portugal (where the famous wine is from!). He enjoys listening to music, experiencing local cultures and being in nature. He is currently doing an internship to become a salesman and will eventually be working for a large European paper trading company. He decided to study English in Australia because he is fascinated by the lifestyle and nature here. He also wants to learn how to surf in Byron Bay. In the future, he hopes to study Law at university and plans to do a lot of travelling to experience many different cultures.
Ai is from Japan. She is a hairdresser and likes playing sport. She came to Lexis Byron Bay because she wants to learn how to speak English. She hopes to make friends from all around the world!
Andi is from Switzerland and has been working for two years programming industrial machinery. His hobbies are riding motorcycles, snowboarding, skateboarding, building his VW bus and participating in his Youth Group. While here at Lexis Byron Bay, he hopes to improve both his English and his surf skills, meet the friendly people of Australia and see the interesting sites that the country has to offer.
Astrid is from Belgium and is staying in Australia for the next three months. She completed high school in June and is now taking a gap year to learn English, travel, experience different lifestyles and push the boundaries of her comfort zone. She also hopes to figure out what she wants to study at University next year; regardless of what course she chooses, she wants to study in English which is why she is here! She plans to study for two months at Lexis Byron Bay before travelling for another month in Australia, then to Bali, Asia and New Zealand.
Olli is from Germany and travelled to Australia with his wife, Katrin. He works for a power company in Germany and enjoys playing football, golf and tennis. He wants to study English so that he can communicate with others from all over the world when travelling. After studying at Lexis Byron Bay he is heading north to visit the Great Barrier Reef.
Katrin is from Germany and lives with her husband, Olli. She has a wonderful garden at their home, with a small pond and Koi fish. She enjoys reading and snowboarding. She works as an Economist for a Distribution Service Operator. Her sister lives in the town of Mullumbimby, near Byron Bay, which is why she came here. After studying at Lexis Byron Bay, she will visit Hamilton Island, Airlie Beach, Cairns and Daintree National Park.
Livia is from Brazil and has two brothers and a sister. She enjoys spending time with her friends. She studied Biology at university but has not worked in the area yet. After studying English at Lexis Byron Bay, she hopes to either find work in Australia in the field of Biology or perhaps study a course in Fashion and Design.
Pol is from Spain and studies Sport Science at Barcelona University. He plays Handball at a high level and trains for about five hours on the weekend for this. While studying, he has also been working at Nike in Barcelona for the past two years. He decided to come to Australia to study English because he believes it will help both his life and his career. He chose Lexis Byron Bay for his studies so that he could experience living in a small country town.
Nil is from Spain and has just completed high school. One of his favourite things to do is photography and hopes to one day take the kind of photos that are seen in magazines. He also likes watching films, reading and playing video games. He came to Australia to study English because he believes the language is important to know and wanted to travel far from home. He hopes to learn how to surf while in Byron Bay and in the future would like to study Informatic Science.

Welcome to the six new starters at Lexis Byron Bay this week!
Clara is from Switzerland and is in Australia for a few months of her gap year between finishing high school and starting university. She has always liked soccer, and played it from the time she was a young girl. She even played in the national team for two years, which also helped her improve her German and French skills. In recent years she has given up playing soccer to focus on her school and when she returns to Switzerland she will then move to Berlin to continue improving her German. She plans to spend 6 weeks with us here in Byron Bay and another 6 weeks at the Gold Coast before returning home. She has always dreamed of visiting Australia and is very excited to study English here!
Pauline is from Belgium and has a brother and half-sister. She likes sports, such as going to the gym, skiing and handball. She has just finished high school and, when she returns to Belgium, plans to study at university. She is thinking about becoming an airline Pilot. She came to Australia to study English because she has dreamed of coming here since she was 14. She believes it is the perfect destination, as you can travel and learn English at the same time, while making lots of friends from all over the world. After her studies with Lexis Byron Bay, she plans to work and travel before returning home.
Lucile is from Belgium and lives in the capital of the country, Brussels. She loves to dance and has been practicing everyday for the past four years. Last year she was accepted into a dance company by a choreographer, which she is very excited about! She also loves to travel and visited California in the USA last year with her mother. She has just finished high school where she studied languages (French, German and English) and economics. She came to Australia because she has only ever heard positive things about this country and has always wanted to see it. In the future she wants to become a teacher.
Anna is from Germany and lives in Berlin with her mother. She is a passionate cook and photographer, and also enjoys fashion and culture. She came to Australia to get to know the culture here. She had also heard a lot of good things about the country from her friends and wanted a “seachange”, from the city to the beach, so decided that Australia was the best place for her to learn English. In the future, she plans to study Psychology at university.
Lucia is from Slovakia and is one of five in her family with her parents, sister and brother, plus a dog called Bambi. She likes swimming and cycling. She studied Finance and Investment at university and has worked as a Manager and Interpreter for a local company which conducts business in France. She has been speaking French for five years and is now in Australia to improve her English skills to enhance her job prospects when she returns home. She hopes to speak fluently in English so that she can obtain work as a lifeguard in Australia. She also looks forward to relaxing and having fun during her time here.
Lear is from Spain and is one of four in his family, including his mother, father and younger brother. He works as a chef and cooking is his passion. He also enjoys music, particularly old school rock and roll, and motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson motorbikes. He came to Australia to improve his English and to explore different types of products and flavours to use in his own cooking back home. One day, he hopes to open his own restaurant or to teach others how to be a good, hardworking chef.

This week we have five students graduating from Lexis Byron Bay.
Aline is from Brazil and graduates from Claudia’s Upper Intermediate class. She has been a hard-working, conscientious student who was a pleasure to teach. She has a keen interest in learning which has helped her to make great improvements with her English skills during her time at Lexis Byron Bay. She now plans to travel the east coast of Australia, driving from Byron Bay to Melbourne, before heading back to Brazil where she would like to continue her English studies. We hope you enjoy exploring Australia by car!

Over the past four weeks, she has shown confidence in her speaking and has developed her English grammar knowledge very nicely. Momo is from Japan and graduates from Kathleen’s Intermediate class. She has been a lovely student who has made great friends both in and outside of the classroom. During her six weeks at Lexis Byron Bay, she gained confidence and increased her fluency while speaking. She communicates effectively with people from different cultures and levels of English and has worked very hard, achieving an A grade for her effort. She is now off to work on a strawberry farm and hopes to do some travel in Australia before returning to Japan. All the best for the rest of your time in Australia and beyond!

Today we have seven new starters at Lexis Byron Bay.
New starters Hiro, Roman, Flurina, Fanny (who started at Lexis last week), Maya, Julie, Jana and Barbara.
Hiro is from Japan and has been studying English with Lexis up at the Sunshine Coast school. He has now transferred here to discover a different part of Australia and the unique Byron Bay lifestyle. He hopes to improve his English skills over the coming nine weeks here at Lexis Byron Bay.
Roman is from Spain and is one of four in his family, with his parents and his younger brother. He likes to go out with friends, play tennis, watch movies and go to the cinema. He has just completed a degree in Business Administration at university and decided to come to Australia to improve his English before looking for a graduate job. He has previously worked as a beach lifeguard, a waiter, and as a tennis coach. He chose to come to Australia for the great weather and believes that Byron Bay will be the perfect place to improve his English and meet many new friends from different cultures.
Flurina is from Switzerland and is joining the Cambridge FCE class. She enjoys going to the beach and surfing. She wants to improve her English to enhance her future career opportunities and she decided to study in an English-speaking country to see a different culture. After considering England, America and Australia, she chose to come to Australia for the way of life, the friendly people and the sunny weather.
Maya is from Japan and has three sisters and a brother in her family. She grew up in a temple and is a Buddhist. She decided to study English at Lexis Byron Bay because she would like to travel more and make friends all around the world.
Julie is from Switzerland and is one of five in her family, including her mother, father, older brother and older sister. She likes skiing and wakesurfing on the lake, flowers, and being in nature. She has been completing an apprenticeship with the Town Council back in Switzerland before coming to Australia. She is hoping to improve her English while in Byron Bay.
Jana is from Germany and lives in the south of the country with her parents. She also has a sister who lives nearby with her fiance. She enjoys hanging out with friends and playing sports, such as tennis in the Summer and skiing during Winter. She is studying at university to become an English and History Teacher. She has also been working in a factory and as a Ski Instructor in Austria while completing her studies. She decided to study at Lexis Byron Bay so that she could improve her English for her studies and future career.
Barbara is from Brazil and has a beautiful daughter called Ana Luisa. She likes eating, doing yoga, and spending time with family and friends. She studied Pedagogy and enjoys discussing education. She works with delinquent teenagers in Brazil and loves her job! She also loves to travel and decided to study English at Lexis Byron Bay to improve her language skills so she can know more cultures around the world. In the future, she hopes to travel the world with her daughter, discovering new cultures and meeting new people from many different countries.

Welcome to the 19 new students starting the General English course this week. Keep reading to find out a little bit about these lovely new students!
Michelle is from Switzerland and has two older siblings, a brother and a sister, plus their Swiss dog called Xira. She enjoys yoga and going for walks with her dog. She studied Visual Communication (graphic design) before doing an Internship at an Advertising Agency in Switzerland. She chose to study English in Australia for the nice beaches and people in this country.
Noori is from Korea and is one of four in her family, including her mother, father and younger sister. She likes Art (drawing and creating things), Education, animals and plants. She studied Environmental Horticulture and has also worked in cafes, which she hopes to continue while in Australia. She hopes to achieve her goals of understanding English movies and learning how to swim while in Australia. She looks forward to experiencing the nature Australia has to offer and is already in love with Byron Bay!
Carole is from Switzerland and lives with her mum and older brother in a small town located between the French and German speaking parts of the country, so she speaks both these languages at home. She likes playing football and is addicted to travel – she has trouble staying in the same place for more than a few months! She has just finished an apprenticeship in Media, creating websites and fliers and helping the company build strong communication and marketing strategies. In the future, she hopes to complete a degree in Tourism Management. She chose to travel to Australia and study English in Byron Bay to enjoy some time off to recharge. After a few months studying here at Lexis Byron Bay, she plans to travel around the country for a month before heading to Queenstown, New Zealand to complete the Cambridge Advanced Certificate.
Julia is from Belgium and is one of six in her family, including her mother, father and three brothers. One brother is a pilot in Germany, another is studying Marketing and the last and youngest is still in school. She enjoys swimming, dancing and reading. She has spent the last four years studying Product Design at a University in Paris. She is now at Lexis Byron Bay because she needs a good level of English to continue her studies at a University in Sydney.
Laura is from Switzerland and has one older brother, who lives with his girlfriend in the same city. She is a very active person and enjoys playing tennis, surfing and running on the beach. She studied to be a teacher and then worked in a Secondary School for a year. In this time, she discovered that the students she was teaching preferred to learn English instead of French, which is why she has decided to refresh her English at Lexis Byron Bay. In the future, she hopes to go on to teach both English and French. She chose to come to Australia because she has heard many good things about this country and would like to improve her surfing skills while she is here.
Saya is from Japan and is one of eight in her family, including her two younger brothers. She enjoys playing the guitar and piano. She is studying Psychology at university in Japan. She came to Australia to study English for the great weather and little time difference to Japan. She has also heard that the Australian people like the Japanese, which helped her decision to come here!
Cristina is from Spain and has two younger siblings, one brother and one sister. She completed her studies in Business Administration three years ago and has since been working for an international company in Madrid. She came to Australia to improve her English, which will help in her career, and because she loves the culture, the surf and the open-minded people. After studying here for a few months, she will return to Spain and work in January of next year.
Yuri is from Japan and lives in a country town surrounded by beautiful nature. The town is famous for a food called ‘Katsumeshi‘. She lives with her mother, father, older sister, older brother and their cute but powerful dog. The dog is called Ame, which means ‘rainy’ in Japanese and was named this way because the weather was rainy on the first day they brought her home! Yuri likes playing sport (especially softball and surfing), watching movies and listening to music. She chose to study English in Byron Bay so she could also go surfing, and hopes to make many new friends while she is here.
Fanny is from France and is one of five in her family, including her mother, father and two brothers. She enjoys trekking, interacting with people from different countries and cultures, and discovering new places. She works as a Special Education teacher, helping children with mental disorders and their families to develop independence and socialisation, as well as understanding and acceptance in the community. She has taken time off from this work to travel and has spent the last six months in India. She is now in Australia to improve her English, particularly to have a better understanding of the words and grammar, so that she can travel around the world with more ease.
Samira is from Switzerland and is one of four in her family, including her mother, father and younger sister. She likes playing volleyball, going out with friends and family, and travelling to many different countries. She was studying to become a Primary School teacher, but is now reassessing what career she would like to do. During this time, she decided to come to Lexis Byron Bay to study English so she could improve her confidence in speaking the language. She chose to travel to Australia because her parents have visited the country and spoke highly of their experience.
Yran is from Brazil and is the youngest of three brothers. He studied Mechanical Engineering and has worked in this area for ten years, and most recently has been working as a Draftsman for a big car company. He quit his job earlier this year to travel around Brazil before coming to Australia. He hopes to enjoy the warm weather here and improve his English.
Anina is from Switzerland and is one of six in her family, including one sister and two brothers. She has a horse called Tomtom and she loves to go riding with him. She enjoys being in nature and walking through the mountains of Switzerland. She has worked for a few years in an office and has had a few months off to enjoy a long holiday. She is now in Australia to improve her English at Lexis Byron Bay before making her way up to Cairns and stopping at all the beautiful places in between!
Charles is from France and has a great older brother. He loves surfing and playing golf with friends. He is studying Law at University and just this year achieved his license. He chose to study English in Australia because it is the best place in the world to surf and a great opportunity to travel and experience another culture. After travelling in Australia, he will return to France to complete his studies to become a Solicitor.
Pauline is from Switzerland and lives with her mother and twin brother. She likes to watch movies at the cinema, having coffee with friends, surfing and keeping fit. She has been working for two years as a Secretary for the Social Service in Switzerland and loves her job. She decided to study English to enhance her career prospects for the future. She came to Australia for the hot weather and because she enjoys surfing. In the future she plans to attain her certificate in English and move into a flat with her best friend.
Jules is from Belgium and is one of five in his family, including his two sisters. He enjoys making movies, playing rugby, golf and squash, and is also learning the ukulele. He is currently in his gap year after finishing school, so is using this time to travel and learn English. Next year he plans to do a course in Cinematic or Political studies. He came to Lexis Byron Bay because he likes the English language and it helps for travel all over the world.
Thomas is from Switzerland and is an only child. He likes to play sports, such as ice hockey in the Winter and soccer in the Summer, as well as swimming in the lake. He works as a Turner and Miller in the metal industry, helping to build parts for cars. He came to Lexis Byron Bay to learn English for his career and for travelling, so he can interact with people from different countries. He hopes to travel around Australia and America in the future.
Minsik is from Korea. He came to Australia to study English and hopes to improve his language skills during his time at Lexis Byron Bay.
Felipe is from Brazil and has a brother, mother and grandmother. He likes sports, such as basketball, and outdoor activities, like climbing, hiking, bike riding, scuba diving and being in nature. He studied Business Administration and now works as a Sales Supervisor for a large beer company. He has always dreamt of coming to Australia to experience the lifestyle and the people. Studying English while he is here will help with his career, but his main motivation was the experience of travel and meeting people from around the world.
Anja is from Switzerland and lives with her boyfriend in Zurich. She works in Sales for the Swiss Postal Service. She came to Australia to learn English and to travel, and plans to stay in the country for the next six months. She is very excited and happy to be living here in Byron Bay!

To celebrate the arrival of all our new students, we enjoyed a BBQ in the front garden. Our BBQ Masterchef (and fabulous teacher) Paul cooked up a storm and the students took advantage of the opportunity to meet each other and start practising their English!

We have three new starters at Lexis Byron Bay this week. Meet Miki, Erika and Yuki!
Miki is from Japan. She likes drawing, watching movies, skiing and swimming. She is in her fourth year of University, studying Architecture. She hopes to travel around Australia to see beautiful or amazing buildings, such as the Sydney Opera House. She would like to improve her English skills to the point of being able to think in both Japanese and English. She would also like to travel and explore this big world that we live in.
Erika is from Brazil. She likes music, especially reggae and electronic music, and enjoys camping at music festivals. She also likes the beach and reading about psychology and psychoanalysis. She has worked as a Hotel Receptionist and as an Assistant Administrator. She hopes to study hospitality in the future to help gain work back in Brazil. In the meantime, she came to study English in Australia because she loves Byron Bay!
Yuki is from Japan. He really likes to travel, most recently he visited India, and he also enjoys playing football. He is in his third year of studing Economics at university, majoring in International Economics, which includes electronic products of China and Korea, the European economy and the American economy. He enjoys speaking English and came to Lexis Byron Bay to improve his skills so that he can work in different countries in the future.

Laetitia is from Switzerland and is one of four in her family, including her mother, father and older sister. She likes to spend time with her friends and family, listen to music and go horesriding. She has just completed her studies at Business School and hopes to work in tourism. She chose to study with Lexis Byron Bay to improve her English and because she has always dreamt of visiting Australia.
Jain is from Korea and lives with her close-knit family of her mother, father, grandmother and sister. She is interested in religion and studies management at university, at the School of Christianity. She enjoys playing musical instruments, including the piano, guitar and violin. She is interested in working in Management for Developing Countries in the future, and needs to be able to communicate with foreigners. She came to Lexis Byron Bay so she could improve her English to achieve this goal.
Antoine is from Belgium and is one of five in his family, including his two older brothers. He likes playing soccer, guitar, surfing and hanging out with friends. In Belgium he works in the shop that his parents own. Next year, he will be studying at a new school in Holland. Antoine came to Australia to learn English because he enjoys surfing and likes the variety of animals we have here.
Caterina is from Switzerland and is one of four in her family. She has a fantastic sister who she gets along really well with and all of her family are quite sporty. She likes listening to music and practicing circus arts. She is studying English so that she can get into tourism and event work. She plans to also live in the German part of Switzerland to improve this language as well.
Denise is from Brazil and lives with her husband and their pet cat. She is a fashion designer and has a range of homemade accessories, such as necklaces, bracelets and rings, that they make during the week to sell on Saturdays and over the internet. She came to Australia because her husband loves to surf. They travel a lot, so learning English is important to her. She hopes to build a pop-up store to travel her own country selling her fashion accessories.
Natsumi is from Japan and is one of four in her family, including her mother, father and younger sister. She enjoys watching movies and her favourite film is ‘Funny Face’. She studies Psychology at University and finds it very interesting and useful at times. She would like to study English to improve her speaking and listening skills, so that she can communicate with her foreign friends.
Mariko is from Japan and joins us in Byron Bay for the English in Action: Yoga course. She lives with her family of her mother, father, brother and grandmother. She works at a wedding company, welcoming people when they arrive at wedding receptions. She enjoys her work, because the guests are always happy which makes her happy too! She came to study English in Byron Bay to try new things and to have a holiday.
Kazumi is from Japan. She loves being in nature and likes to go for regular surfing and camping trips with her friends. She studied at university then worked for 3 years as a Web Designer. She then went to Malta to learn English before travelling in Europe. After completing more studies in PHP programming, she got another job as a Web Designer. She has just left that job to come to Australia because she loves travelling and wants to improve her English.
Angela is from Spain and joins us in Byron Bay for the English in Action: Yoga course.

Welcome to the five new starters at Lexis Byron Bay this week: Yoshi, Vanessa, Priscilla, Ethan and Othman.
Yoshi is from Japan and is one of six in his family, including his mother and father, two sisters and one brother. He likes to ride his motorbike and enjoys drinking a beer with his awesome friends. After finishing High School earlier this year, he then worked in a restaurant before travelling to Australia. He chose to come here for the great weather, beautiful beaches and hopes to work on a farm. In the future, he would like to live and work in London.
Vanessa is from Switzerland and is one of four in her family with her parents and an older brother. She enjoys swimming, reading, hanging out with friends, snowboarding and travelling. She worked as a Front Office Manager in a hotel before following her dream to travel to Australia. She is studying English at Lexis to improve her travelling experience while in Australia! In the future she hopes to move to Sweden to live and work.
Priscilla is from Switzerland and lives with her family of five including her mother, father and two younger sisters. She likes travelling, cooking, gymnastics and going to the beach, and works with young children in a kindergarten. She decided to study English here so that she can meet her relatives in Australia. She would also like to learn to surf in Byron Bay! She hopes to do two more years of study when she returns to Switzerland, before settling down and starting a family.
Ethan is from Korea and lives with his family in Seoul. He likes to go to the beach and swim, and would like to learn how to surf during his time here in Byron Bay. He studied English in High School and hopes to continue improving on what he has learnt. When he was a child, Ethan visited Australia for one month and felt it was a very good country. He now returns to learn English and chose Byron Bay for the variety of foreigners who live and travel through this area.
Othman is from Saudi Arabia. He enjoys football, tennis and PS4, as well as going to the beach with his family. He came to Australia to learn English, which he needs in order to study at university. He chose to spend his time with Lexis in Byron Bay because he is the only student from Saudi Arabia here, so he will be able to totally immerse himself in the English language.

This week we have six students graduating from Lexis Byron Bay.
Jongwon is from Korea and graduates from David’s Pre-Intermediate class. He has been a pleasure to have in class and a committed student. He has worked well to improve his English skills and his confidence in using the language. His classmates gave him a send-off yesterday and wish him all the best for the future!

Emilio is from Spain and graduates from Paul’s Intermediate class. He has been a respectful student who was a pleasure to teach and he has improved his English during his time at Lexis. Emilio is also a keen surfer who has made the most of the awesome surf in Byron Bay. Keep chasing those waves Emilio!
Romane is from Belgium and graduates from Paul’s Intermediate class. She has improved her English and has been involved in many different activities, such as learning how to surf. She has made great friends with other students from all over the world during her time at Lexis Byron Bay. All the best for the future Romane!

Pedro is from Brazil and graduates from Ellie’s IELTS class. He has had a fantastic attitude to his learning and always asks questions to explore and enhance his understanding and use of the English language. He has a very high level of English and has made great improvements during his time here. Pedro is venturing into a new chapter of his Australian life, taking on more studies to further his career. We wish you the best of luck with your next course and hope you continue to enjoy living in Australia!
Lucas is from Brazil and graduates from Ellie’s IELTS class. He has been an active contributor to class discussions and activities, providing interesting and through-provoking points of view. He has improved his English to achieve a deeper understanding and more natural use of the language. Lucas has also made a lasting impression on the attached Student Accommodation, by creating a beautiful mural on an otherwise dull wall. Both his artistic talents and his friendly personality will be missed around here!
Santiago is from Spain and graduates from Ellie’s IELTS class. He has been an enthusiastic student who happily shares his learning and understanding with his classmates. He has developed his excellent listening skills and learns new phrases quickly. Santi has been the student who wears the most fluorescent clothing to class and has been enjoying the great surf of Byron Bay during his time here! We wish you the best on your return to Spain!

Today we have four students graduating – Sergi, Nadine, Raul and Anna.
Sergi is from Spain and graduates from Mel and Becky’s Elementary class. He has worked very hard and been an engaged, positive student during his time here at Lexis and has shown incredible improvement in his English. He started with little English and is now graduating at the top of the class. Well done Sergi, and all the best for the future!
Nadine is from Switzerland and graduates from Claudia’s Intermediate class. She has been a motivated student who was a pleasure to teach. Her participation and contributions in class were very appreciated and she worked hard to improve her English skills to the level they are today. Enjoy your time in Cairns!
Raul is from Spain and graduates from Kristy’s Pre-Intermediate class. He has been a pleasure to have in class and has really improved both his speaking and listening skills. Raul is now staying in Byron Bay to continue enjoying the surfers lifestyle. See you around town, Raul!
Anna is from Spain and graduates from Claudia’s Intermediate class. She has been a conscientious student who actively participates in class, which has helped her to achieve great improvement in her English during her time here at Lexis. Best of luck to you for the future, Anna!
