This morning we were making everyone’s favourite – pizza! ๐Ÿ˜€

IMG_3171

Ingredients:

  • Capsicum/red pepper
  • Tomatoes
  • Onion
  • Spinach
  • Mushrooms
  • Ham
  • Shredded Mozzarella
  • Tomato pizza sauce
  • Pizza base

Everyone split into groups and we made six pizzas in total. Each group chopped and prepared their own ingredients and ‘decorated’ their pizzas as best they could while the oven was heating up. Then it was only 15 minutes to cook them!

See the creative results before they hit the oven!

IMG_2956

Today we had our final Coffee Club for our Hiroshima Juniors group! We had our usual favourites – delicious coffees and TimTams, as well as a very fun game of Uno. We all chatted about what everyone did yesterday evening and took the time to reflect on their two-week trip so far. Everyone agreed that they would like more time here at Lexis Byron Bay as they are enjoying it so much!

We also announced the winner of our recent Scavenger Hunt photography challenge – it was the amazing group Yoga shot, taken by Kanon. Well done Kanon!ย ๐Ÿ˜€ See her winning shot below and her accepting her prize – TimTams! ๐Ÿ˜€

Boomerang Painting! March 27th

Header

Today we had the very fun and creative activity of Boomerang painting! Our Hiroshima Juniors joined withย  their classmates and together, we all painted our own individual boomerang.

Everyone ready to start! ๐Ÿ™‚

I had some painted boomerangs to show as examples, as well as some information about the meaning behind all the symbols โ€“ an interesting insight into the traditional Aboriginal style, used to tell stories through the artists paintings.

See everyone concentrating hard on their masterpieces! ๐Ÿ˜€

Didgeridoo Lesson! March 20th

1.JPG

Yesterday we had the amazingly talented Craig come in and introduce us to an incredible art form – playing the Didgeridoo!

He explained all about what a didgeridoo is – a wooden instrument developed by indigenous Australians, along withย a bit about the history and origin of this instrument which has been used within aboriginal tribes for years. It was fascinating to learn about how they form – from finding the perfect branch or tree trunk, to working with it’s natural form to further hollow out the centre and polish it to a smooth finish. Many hours of hard work go into making each didgeridoo and they can range in price from a few hundred dollars to well over a thousand!

Craig had a selection of didgeridoos for us to choose from. Each mouth piece was finished with a special wax, to help seal the edges around the mouth so that no air could get through to disrupt our sound.

The first thing we had to do was practice making a special vibrating sound with our lips, (lots of laughs!) which we then had to do into the didgeridoo – it was surprisingly difficult!

We learned about making different sounds and rhythms, with some mimicking the sounds of animals such as the kangaroo and others sounding like the word ‘did-ger-i-doo‘!

Some of the group were naturals, taking to it so quickly, while others (like me) took a little more practice! ๐Ÿ˜‰ One thing is for sure though – everyone had a fantastic time! Thanks Craig ๐Ÿ˜€

Hiroshima Juniors Lighthouse walk! March 19th

3On Tuesday morning, we embarked on a beautiful walk up to Byron Bay Lighthouse. We left Lexis at 9am, taking a taxi to Captain Cooke’s car park by the beach. From here, we set off on the first part of our journey by foot.

IMG_2282The views along the way were amazing so we had plenty of stops for photographs. It was blue sky and sunshine so the colour of the water was a beautiful and clear turquoise.

All ready to head back to Lexis, taking in more stunning views as we walked.
