Alexandra is from Spain and goes by her nickname Sandra! She is a biologist and environmental educator. After finishing her degree she worked as a guide in the Botanical Gardens in Madrid. After 1 year in this job she moved to a small town in Costa Rica; it was here she was told about a magical place called Byron Bay! She enjoys yoga, nature and animals, so knew Byron Bay would the perfect place for her English studies!
Estefany was born in Columbia but moved to the Canary Islands when she was very young. When she was 19 she then moved to Stockholm, Sweden to study a Bachelor Degree in Politics and Human Rights. Her biggest passions in life are travelling, reading and writing. Whilst in Byron, as well as improving her English, she also wants to learn to surf and will complete yoga teaching training after her 6 weeks with Lexis!
Raffaella is from Italy. She is a beautician there and owns her our beauty shop. In her free time she likes to play football, read books and take walks in the mountains. She wants to improve her English so she is able to speak with her English friends! She chose Australia for her studies because it is a beautiful country she is excited to experience!
Virginie is from Belgium. Her hobbies include gymnastics, judo and spending time with her friends. She has just finished high school and is now taking a gap year to learn languages; she has already spent 4 months in the Netherlands learning Dutch and will now be here with us for 20 weeks. After her gap year she would like to study Economy and Business which is only taught in English at the university; this is one of her reasons for being here, but also so she can find a good job and travel more easily!
Jan is from the German speaking part of Switzerland. He has just finished 10 weeks of English study at our Lexis Noosa school and will now study here with us in Byron for 3 weeks! He is looking forward to seeing more of Australia and improving his English even further!

Danielle, from Brazil, graduates from Ellie and Claudia’s advanced class. Ellie and Claudia said how lovely it has been to have her in class! She has such a lively and positive attitude and she was a pleasure to teach. Danielle’s English has improved in all areas. Well done! I am sure you enjoyed your time here in Byron Bay and we wish you all the very best for your future.
Pedro, from Brazil, also graduates from Ellie and Claudia’s advanced class. Pedro joined us from Brisbane 5 weeks ago. Ellie and Claudia said how his calm and positive attitude made him a pleasure to have in class. He has been a very conscientious student and has a truly impressive grasp of English. He leaves us with an outstanding level of English and for this he should be very proud. Congratulations Pedro!
Gabriel, from Brazil, has been with us since January. He studied in Paul’s FCE class and received fantastic results in his Cambridge exams. He graduates from Ellie and Claudia’s Advanced class. All his contributions to class discussions have been greatly appreciated. It has been wonderful getting to know you and you will be truly missed by everyone here at Lexis. He is not venturing too far though, staying in Byron Bay to work and surf. Congratulations Gabriel; it has been a pleasure!
Louis, from France, graduates from Josie’s Upper Intermediate class after a spending a magical week in Byron learning English an surfing on our TAP program. Josie described how he was keen to learn, participated well and had a great attitude. She only wished she he could have stayed longer. We hope to see you back in Byron again before long Louis!
Elena, from Spain, graduated from Josie’s Upper Intermediate class, having been with us for a wonderful 24 weeks. She left us for a 2 week stint in the Sunshine Coast and though she enjoyed the experience she just couldn’t wait to come back to Byron. She has made fantastic progress, moving from Pre Intermediate to Upper Intermediate. Now she leaves us to explore Bali and the Philippines. She has become part of the furniture here at Lexis and we are terribly sad to see her go. Good luck with everything Elena!
Felipe, from Brazil, graduates from Paul’s Intermediate class. Felipe has been with us for 16 weeks, in which time he has been a fantastic student and classmate, always showing interest in getting to know others and and at the same time practising his English. Shodai, from Japan, has just finished University and will now be living in Australia for the next 10 months. He would like to be able to speak English fluently so he can make friends with people from other countries and also because it will help him get a job whilst he is here. He enjoys playing baseball, hiking mountains and watching sports games.
Juliana, from Columbia, has just finished studying Fashion and Marketing communication. Aswell as her passion for this she is also loves singing. A year and a half ago she started her career as a singer and launched her first single ‘Frutica Pal Alma’, and has been working on writing more songs since then. She would like to do a course in Digital Marketing here in Australia then start her own marketing company back in Columbia. She chose Byron Bay for her studies because of the cool, laid back lifestyle of this small beach town!
Tae, from Japan, works for the biggest internet shopping company in Japan, Rakuten; she is a buyer for the Fashion section which she finds very enjoyable, yet busy! Her hobbies include surfing, fashion and travelling. She chose to study English in Byron Bay because she saw pictures of this beautiful town on Instagram and loved the beaches and uniqueness of it. She is here with us at Lexis to improve her English as she often needs to use it for job and would one day like to work abroad.
Satomi, from Japan, studied Genetics at University and gained a Masters and a job relating to her major which she really enjoys. Her hobbies include snowboarding and watching movies, and she’d like to do some more yoga whilst she is in Byron Bay as she knows this is a great place for it. On Tuesday Yuna, Yoko, Sandra, Sayaka, Celine, Christian and Maika enjoyed a 1 hour surf lesson with Let’s Go Surfing!
The weather was beautiful and the waves were perfect for beginners!
This 1 hour lesson is great way for our students to give surfing a try! We’ll be doing another next month for anyone else who’d like to give it a go 🙂

It was my first time making sushi but luckily I had lots of helpful students on hand to show me how it’s done 🙂
For some of the students it was their first time also, but quite a few of them had made sushi together in their lesson the week before!
Waiting for the rice to be ready took some patience but we then got onto the fun part! Picking from tuna, salmon, carrot, avocado and cucumber we then rolled our sushi 🙂
The result was delicious and there was plenty to go around!

At last weeks Coffee Club myself, Andrea, Pol, Nil and Svenja played quite possibly the longest game of Uno in history!
We all had different ideas of how Uno should be played, which created a small bit of conflict but we got through it 🙂

Maika is from Japan. She has just completed 6 months of studying at Lexis Perth. She had a great time there but felt it was time to move on and see another part of Australia, so she will now be here studying with us in Byron Bay for 2 months!
Celine is from Belgium. She has just spent the last 4 months travelling Australia and will now study at Lexis for 12 weeks. She chose to study in Byron Bay as she visited here last year and loved it! She wants to improve her English so she can work abroad and communicate with people from many different countries.
Manuela is from Brazil. She enjoys traveling, surfing and photography. She studied Geology at University and worked as a scientific researcher in Brazil. She has just been traveling around Europe and Nepal during their winter so decided to study in Australia for the warmer weather!
Clara is from Brazil. She has recently moved to Byron Bay with her husband, Rodrigo, who also joins us today! They are very excited to start a new life in Australia and decided to study at Lexis to improve their English and make new friends. Clara is an architect and plans to do a post graduation in Permaculture once she feels more confident with her English!
Rodrigo is also from Brazil but comes from Italian descendant. He enjoys outdoor activities such as football, surfing, yoga and trekking. He graduated as a civil engineer and owns his own construction company. As well as this he also graduated in chef cuisine and owns a successful Japanese restaurant! He is wanting to improve his English so he and his wife Clara can start a new life here!
Juan is from Chile. He’s a qualified mechanic and works for Audi. He enjoys playing football and would like to learn to surf while he’s here in Byron Bay. He chose to come to Australia to improve his English and learn about the Australian culture!

Our Friday activity was Wine Tasting! The perfect way to end the week and start the weekend!
We tried 6 different types of wine, including white, red and rose; with Tito doing an excellent job as server!

Yesterday we stayed out of the rain and enjoyed coffee, Tim Tams and conversations!
We played Jenga with questions for both the morning and afternoon Coffee Club sessions. The questions on each blocks are a great conversations starters and it’s always a popular game with the students!
In the afternoon some of our Brazilian students made their traditional much loved desert Brigadeiro, which they kindly shared with all of us; thanks guys, it was delicious!

Kathrin is from Germany, where she lives near Cologne. She enjoys sports, particularly tennis or going to the gym. She has just finished her apprenticeship in a bank were she has worked for the past 2 years. Next year she will go to University to study Business Economics, so she decided to come to Australia to refresh her English in between!
Michael is from Switzerland and enjoys snow boarding and skate boarding. He works as a trader supporter in the biggest telecommunication in Switzerland. His biggest passion is travelling and this is one of the many reasons he chose to study in Australia! Other reasons include the laid back attitude of the people who live here and the amazing nature!
Joao is from Brazil and enjoys football, swimming and surfing. He wants to improve his English to help him find a good job in the future. He chose to do his studies in Byron Bay so he could also enjoy the Australian culture at the same time!
Jennifer is from Switzerland, the German part. She finished 6 years of nurse school to now become a psychiatric nurse, which she really enjoys. Her biggest hobby is travelling and exploring new places. Once she has finished her studies in Byron Bay her and Michael will travel the East Coast!
Flavio is from Brazil and loves surfing every day. He studied chemistry and now works in technical sales for plastic industries. He would like to improve his English so he can communicate with lots of people around the world and potentially change his job. Welcome to our three new starters starting at Lexis Byron Bay this week!
Chantal is from Brazil but has lived in Switzerland for the last 16 years. She has worked as a nurse in a hospital there for 9 years. Her favourite hobbies are scuba diving and hiking; both of which she’ll be able to do lots of in Australia!
Ann-Katrin, or Anki as her friends call her, is from Germany. She enjoys going out with her friends and sports; she’ll often go to the gym or climbing in her spare time. Whilst here in Byron Bay she’s doing our Surf in Action course so will also be learning this new skill! She would like to improve her English as she will be doing a course on ‘anglo-american law’ once she leaves Australia!
Shiho is from Japan, where she studies as a social worker. Her main hobby is listening to music. She wants to study English so she can then communicate with many people from various countries!
