We had our weekly Coffee Club today at Lexis Byron Bay!β
And we have our nice little routine down pat these days!
What we do:
we put the kettle on and boil the water
we set the tea cups and mugs on the table
we arrange the different flavours of tea and coffee
and then assemble Jenga and Uno!
It’s a safe and fun environment to practice your English skills and to meet new people π
If you want to join us next week Coffee Club is on Monday 2pmand Tuesday 11.30am!

Recently we’ve introduced Coffee Club on a Monday afternoon at Lexis Byron Bay! β
Or in Christian’s case today, ‘tea time’. He even had his little pinky finger out for the occasion π
Fabian joined in with a coffee.
And Eglantine had a mocha for the first time with us. She doesn’t usually like coffee, though this one was okay because it had chocolate in it too! π«
The game of choice today was Jenga with the questions on each piece.
There were fiery conversations about some of the topics that came up! Examples that stirred debate we’re about politics and the death penalty. However, it was nicer to speak about trivial subject matters like our dream holiday destination or our favourite flavours of ice-cream! π¦
Join us tomorrow morning at 11.30am for Coffee Club!

This morning, we had our first coffee club of not only a new month, but a new season! Summer is finally here! π It’s a bit cloudy here in Byron today but still beautifully warm, with a soft breeze blowing to keep us cool while we sipped our coffees and played………Jenga!
It was Tassia’s first time to play Jenga so she was super excited! π
Look at that concentration…
And then it was all over!
We are here for Coffee Club EVERY TUESDAY (11.30am for the afternoon students & 2pm for the morning students)Β so be sure to join us for some fun chat, games, coffees and Tim Tams! π

Summer is definitely on it’s way here in Byron Bay! It was a beautifully warm day so we enjoyed today’s Coffee Club in the sunshine <3
The Tim Tams had to be eaten very quickly as they were melting in the heat, but luckily the students were happy to help out!
We were all amazed that Sacha has been in Australia one month and this is the first time he’s had Tim Tams?! He now loves them almost as much as the other students and said he’ll be coming back to Coffee Club again next week π
We had lots of fun playing Jenga with questions, until Sacha knocked the tower over and had to do 10 push ups!

Today at Coffee Club we played Jenga with questions!
Each block has a question for the player to answer before placing it back on top of the tower. It’s a great way of learning new and interesting things about eachother!

Join me for coffees (cappuccino, latte, chocolate brownie are just some on offer!), Tim Tams and games!
The past few of weeks we’ve played Uno, President and Jenga with questions!
Always an enjoyable afternoon π

Yesterday at Coffee Lounge we enjoyed coffees and Tim Tams in the sun!
We played a couple of games of Uno, which Yurij and Elisa won!
Then Jenga with questions, with me being the first for it to fall on, after I’d already tripped backwards over the box of coffees knocking them over the floor , followed by spilling my water all over myself! Very clumsy day for me!! Let’s hope next week I manage Coffee Lounge without any accidents / embarrassments!

We’ve been enjoying some beautifully warm and sunny winter days here in Byron Bay!
Today we sat in the sun for Tim Tams, Jenga and Scattergories!!
Whilst us girls enjoyed our chocolates and chats the boys had fun practicing their soccer skills!
We’re all looking forward to this glorious weather continuing!

Throughout May we’ve continued to have our weekly Coffee Lounges!
I’d really like to think the students just come to spend time with me, playing games and having conversations, but I have a sneaky suspicion Tim Tams and doughnutsΒ may have something to do with it……….
We’ve played games including President,
Jenga with Questions,
and a Spanish variation ofΒ Snap!
We were also treated to some card tricks and posing from Albert and Tito!

Yesterday we stayed out of the rain and enjoyed coffee, Tim Tams and conversations!
We playedΒ Jenga with questions for both the morning and afternoon Coffee Club sessions. The questions on each blocks are a greatΒ conversations starters and it’sΒ always a popular game with the students!
In the afternoon some of our Brazilian students made their traditional much loved desert Brigadeiro, which they kindly shared with all of us; thanks guys, it was delicious!

Today at Coffee Club we enjoyed coffee, Tim Tams and Jenga!!
To make Jenga even more entertaining each wooden block has a question the player has to read out and answer! It’s a great way of learning interesting facts about each other, such as their views onΒ politics, their hopes and dreams and, for those brave enough to reveal, their most embarrassing moments!

Being such a hot day in Byron Bay today, a hot coffee wasn’t too appealing! Instead we had a nice cold beer and tried to eat the TimTams before they all melted!
While enjoying the beers we played a round of Lexis Jenga and learnt a little bit more about each other from the questions on each tile.
For example, we found out that Francesco’s dream holiday is to be on the island of Bora Bora, preferably enjoying the company of 17 women! We also discovered Pauline’s most embarrassing moment was when she arrived at school for what she thought was a normal day only to realise she (and her mum) had totally forgotten about her school camp leaving that very morning! There was also a fairly unanimous agreement that if any of us had a billion dollars, it would be spent on travelling the world.
Today at Coffee Lounge we played a game of Lexis Jenga to practice speaking English while enjoying coffee and TimTams!
The students are getting quite good at Jenga, building precarious towers but being very skilled at extracting the tiles without making it fall!
Eventually it gets to a point when it is impossible to remove any tiles without the whole thing collapsing, despite Maya’s efforts!
In the afternoon we had our coffee and TimTams over a game of Pictionary!
There were some interesting drawings, some incredible guesses and lots of laughter throughout the game.Β In the end, the team of Myuri and Mayumi won after leaping ahead by winning five rounds in a row!

We had two sessions of Coffee Lounge today – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. At the morning session, we played Aussie Heads which requires asking questions to discover the identity of the card stuck to your forehead!
It is a great game to help practice English by both asking questions, giving clues to other players, and guessing the right English word for your card. Everyone did really well with asking the right questions to discover their identity, even with the more difficult cards such as ‘Aussie Dollar’, ‘Great Barrier Reef’ and ‘Sandcastle’.
In the afternoon we played Lexis Jenga, which is just like normal Jenga but with a question written on each tile which the student answered when they had pulled it out.
The questions help the students to learn some more English words and phrases, and encourage speaking to explain their answers. It is also a great game to help get to know each other – today we found out that Myuri likes to dance in the shower, Mayumi’s favourite movie is Titanic, and Yuki would make everyone visit Japan if he ruled the world!
Some students come along to Coffee Lounge for the conversation, others come for the TimTams…Roman and Pol are definitely here for the TimTams and would do just about anything for one of those biscuits!

Today at Coffee Lounge we practiced our English conversation skills with a couple of games! Of course, we also had some yummy coffee and TimTams as well!
In the morning, we played Lexis Jenga which is the same as traditional Jenga, but with a question on each tile. After pulling out a tile, you then answer the question.
From today’s questions we found out that Bruna’s favourite ice cream flavour is vanilla, Stefan has been to eight different countries, Saya’s favourite thing to do in Byron Bay is go to the beach, Isabella once got a speeding ticket for R$80 (approximately AU$30 – a cheap fine by Australian standards!), and Othman’s favourite season is Winter because the weather is much cooler then in his home country of Saudi Arabia.
This game is a great way to practice and learn English words and phrases while also getting to know your fellow students. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from Frida, the dog enjoying her coffee in the photo, who was being looked after by Lexis student Isabella!
In the afternoon, we played Charades which involved acting out English phrases for the other students to guess.
Some phrases were quite difficult and were a good opportunity to learn a phrase the students had never heard of before. For example, ‘raking leaves‘, ‘chasing a tornado‘ and ‘landing a plane‘. Others were a bit easier and were a lot of fun to act out and guess, such as ‘milking a cow‘, ‘filming a movie‘ and ‘washing an elephant‘! Every student who acted out a phrase got a TimTam (which is enough to convince even Roman to join the game!) and enjoyed the time learning English and laughing along with their friends.

Today we held two Coffee Lounge sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The morning students enjoyed the challenge of Lexis Jenga, building a tall and precarious tower and answering the questions on each piece.
Through these questions, we discoveredΒ that Barbara has been to fourteen different countries, that Julie sings in the shower and that Yuri would travel the world if she won a billion dollars.
The afternoon students had fun with a game of Aussie Heads while enjoying their coffee and TimTams, with everyone taking turns asking YES or NO questions to figure out what the card on their forehead was.
Each student did really well, deducing what their card was with minimal hints, but Samira Β gets a special mention for figuring out that she was theΒ Aussie DollarΒ so quickly, which is a notoriously difficult one to guess!

Today we had some great conversation while enjoying coffee and TimTams at Coffee Lounge.
We chatted and gotΒ to know each other, then had a long game of Lexis Jenga. The Lexis version of this game includes answering the question written on the tile you remove from the tower. For example, there were questions likeΒ “Do you sing in the shower?”, “What is the government like in your country?” and “Do you like Vegemite?”.Β We found out that Jain’s favourite pizza topping is kimchi, that both Saki and Vanessa are not likely to survive long in the desert without water, and that Yuki would remove the need for Visas when travelling if she ruled the world!
After a few precarious attempts to continue building the Jenga tower, it all came falling down with a small bump of the table…
…and a lot of laughter to follow! π

It’s a cold and rainy Winter’s day in Byron Bay, one of the few we have had so far this year!
We spent the afternoon warming up with some hot coffee and devouring the delicious TimTams while enjoying great conversation over a game of Lexis Jenga.
The students showed off their steady hands as the Jenga tower grew tall and wobbly before the inevitable collapse.
There were lots of laughs at Coffee Club today – thanks to all the students who joined in!

There was a great turnout for Coffee Club today, with eleven students joining me for the activity.
We enjoyed a couple of rounds of Lexis Β Jenga while enjoying coffee, TimTams and great conversation.Β We learnt that while some students believe in love at first sight, others don’t, and that everyone loves ice cream and dislikes their government.
It was a fun afternoon and a great opportunity to practice listening to and speaking English!

This afternoon we enjoyed our coffee and TimTams in a truly Australian style – using the TimTams as straws to drink our coffee through!
To try this at home (which I highly recommend), bite each end off your TimTam then submerge one end into the coffee (or tea or hot chocolate…any hot drink!) and suck through the other end. Enjoy the coffee and the yummy, gooey taste of a melting TimTam! Just make sure to eat the TimTam before it melts completely and falls in your drink!
We also had some great conversation over anΒ awesome round of Lexis Jenga. π

Today in Coffee Club we tackled some of the world’s problems. We answered a range of questions –Β fromΒ what we would do if we ruled the world, to our view of politics and our own governments. Of course we also covered other very important issues such as our favourite ice cream flavours and singing in the shower!
Natsumi showed off her superior skills in the first round, building a tall and precarious tower before it fell to the ground. InolaΒ played her first ever game of Jenga with Marina and myself, enjoying the challenge and learning the tricks of the game quickly!
Above all, it was an enjoyable afternoon of chatting and getting to know you all. π

This afternoon I was joined by seven Lexis Byron Bay students and one Lexis Perth student! We enjoyed coffee and Tim Tams, plus some bonus chocolate, with a rowdy game of Lexis Jenga.
While everyone tried their best to be careful, the Jenga tower fell 5 times! Each time, the person who made it fall had to try some Vegemite straight out of the jar…Β Emiko,Β Mayumi andΒ Noriko were not impressed with the Vegemite butΒ Kim andΒ ShinΒ thought it was pretty tasty.Β BernardaΒ andΒ Yuki (andΒ Adrian from Perth)Β also played butΒ were skilled enough to avoid the Vegemite tastingΒ this time round!
Thanks for joining me today, I hope you all enjoyed your coffee, Tim Tams and Vegemite!

There was some incredible Jenga-tower-building today at Coffee Lounge!Β Thanks toΒ JeannineΒ the “Jenga Extraordinaire” Β for joining me. It was a lovely afternoon of chatting, Tim Tams and balancing!
Trying to balance the Jenga wobbles…
…and failing!
The most important thing is that we had a fun time, and got to eat Tim Tams! π

We played Lexis Jenga again at Coffee Club this afternoon, while enjoying our coffee and Tim Tams. Ravi tried his first ever Tim Tam and enjoyed it but said it was very sweet.
Some of the questions on our Jenga blocks today included “what is your biggest fear?” “what is your favourite pizza topping?” and “have you ever done something you regret?” In the end, I (Laura) made the Jenga tower fall… as my embarrassing forfeit I had to tell someone else in the room that I love them (sorry Lucas, it’s not true!)
At Coffee Club this afternoon we enjoyed coffee and Tim Tams while playing Jenga with a Lexis twist – each block had a question to answer!Β Green blocks had easy questions, orange blocks were more difficult and red blocks were the most difficult.
Artjan, Chops, Nuria, Marco and Andrea joined me for the game and they all did a great job at removing the blocks and answering questions like “Do you like vegemite?” “What kind of kid were you?” and “What are your hopes, dreams and goals for the future?”
The tower became very tall and wobbly and in the end, it fell during Nuria’s turn. As a forfeit, Nuria has to write her name with a pen in her mouth!
