CARPENTER AND JOINER

The employer has a rapidly expanding fashion brand, based in Byron Bay, with concept stores also in Canggu and Seminyak, Bali. They have recently opened a second Byron Bay concept store and coffee bar with plans for further stores elsewhere. The employer requires a Carpenter and Joiner with shop fitting experience to join their team to support the set-up, renovation and maintenance of their stores. The brand is also regularly staged at surf, skate and music festivals, which require skilful design and installation of unique fitouts on site from which to promote the merchandise. Every festival set is unique and demands artistic flair in addition to high level practical skills. The Carpenter and Joiner is responsible for all aspects of design and construction, in liaison with management, marketing and accounting team members. Skills in budgeting and project managing, as well as the ability to work fast in a team under pressure are necessary for the position. Essential Employment Experience: At least three years of relevant work experience as a qualified tradesperson is essential and experience must include both building and design, with an emphasis on shop fitting and cabinetry. Experience in project management and/or business management is highly desirable. Essential Qualifications: Successful completion of an apprenticeship in Carpentry and Joinery is essential, with any further Master qualifications highly desirable. Additional practical skills and knowledge: – Studying drawings and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures. – Ordering and selecting timbers and materials, and preparing layouts. – Cutting materials, and assembling and nailing cut and shaped parts. – erecting framework and roof framing, laying sub-flooring and floorboards and verifying trueness of structures. – Nailing fascia panels, sheathing roofs, and fitting exterior wall cladding and door and window frames. – Assembling prepared wood to form structures and fittings ready to install. – Cutting wood joints. – May construct concrete formwork. – May repair existing fittings. – May work with plastic laminates, perspex and metals
