Dreamcatcher making! March 7th

Cover

We recently got to do a Lexis favourite – Dreamcatcher making! 😀

We all met in the student lounge and gathered around our big box of wonderful materials. We had various fabrics, wool, twine, threads, beads, wire, shells and of course, feathers!

The first thing we did was wrap the wire hoop with twine/wool/fabric – to make it look prettier and to hide the wire. We then started making the ‘web’, using some more twine. It is a surprisingly simple procedure but just takes time and patience 😉

Check out the finished web!

Once the web was made, everyone was free to get super creative with decorating their dreamcatcher!

Look at the beautiful results!

Keep an eye on our activity calendar to see what other creative and fun things we will be doing! Sign up sheets are on the notice board at reception 🙂

Making Dreamcatchers! 7 March

Yesterday Orla and I taught the students how to make dreamcathers!

I had a small group in the afternoon, which made it easy to show and help each of them individually, ensuing they were made to perfection!

We all opted to go for neutral, rustic designs. Once we had covered the outer ring and made the web, we made them more decorative with hanging feathers, tassels, shells and beads.

Maria and Patricia made theirs to go in their van, which will no doubt give them fond memories of Byron and Lexis when they’re on their travels, whilst Raphael decided his made a great accessory for glasses!

Dreamcatcher Making! 12 December

On Wednesday we had a delightful morning and afternoon making dreamcatchers!

I demonstrated first how to make the netting and then assisted the students to do their own (with some needing more assistance than others!)

Using our box of materials, beads, shells and feathers we then decorated our dreamcatchers, with some beautiful results!

Carlos showed us just one of the many things they can now do with their dreamcatcher…

Previously students have given them as a gift (often to their homestay families!), hung them in their vans before going off traveling, decorated their bags with them, and taken them home as a souvenir of their time in Byron! Or they can use them for their original purpose and simply hang them in their rooms to protect them from bad dreams!

Morning Dreamcatcher Making! 12 December

On Wednesday we made everyone’s favourite – Dreamcatchers!

We started off with a wire ring, which we had to wrap, using various bits and pieces from our large box of materials, threads, wools and twine.

The next step then was to make the web part of the dreamcatcher. We watched a video and then I showed them in more detail, how to go about making their own. It looks a bit tricky but is surprisingly easy once you get into it. It is also very therapeutic! 🙂

Then it was time to add some embellishments to our webs. We had lots of beautiful bits and bobs – like feathers, beads, shells…

I was very impressed with the final results!

Make a Dreamcatcher!! 13 September

Yesterday we had a creative afternoon making our own Dreamcatchers!

IMG_6257

We followed a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vmtkc7FOWLw&t=3s) to get us started, then the students created their own, with me on hand to help!

There was plenty of different fabrics, threads, beads and feathers for the students to use, so they were all able to make theirs completely unique!

Entertainment was provided with some beautiful singing from Eric, Lorene and Sacha, my particular favourite being their rendition of Queen’s Break Free!

I was very impressed by the different ideas everyone had for their dreamcathcers and the brilliant results!
