Body Boarding is such a great water sport and very easy to pick up. Originating in Polynesia, it has now become one of Australia’s favourite summer sports and today was the perfect day for it!

Learn English in Byron Bay. Lexis English students study General English, IELTS, FCE, CAE, and English plus Surfing and Yoga in a friendly and professional school right in the heart of Byron Bay and only 15 minutes from the beach.
Last Thursday, our awesome students gathered in front of the school to all head down together to the beach for an afternoon of Body Boarding.
It was a quick walk along Byron Bay’s main street to the Lets Go Surfing shop.
When we arrived, we met the awesome team and had a crash course in the basics of body boarding. We were each given a board and a wet suit if wanted one.
Now it was time to hit the waves..
As soon as we arrived at main beach we spotted a pod of whales <3 This time of the year the whales are migrating with their new born calves. It is very common to spot them breaching and splashing not far from the shore. No matter how many times you see them, it is always magical!
We decided to take our boards out in between the flags, as this is the safest area to swim because it is always patrolled by lifeguards.
It was a great afternoon, thanks to our friends at Lets Go Surfing for providing the equipment! 😀
Friday afternoon’s free activity was body boarding!
We all walked down together to see Blake, Katie and Hughey (the dog) at ‘Lets Go Surfing’. They were kind enough to lend us the boards for the afternoon and also wet suits if we wanted them… but we all decided we were tough enough without them.
It was a slightly windy afternoon, but the sun was shinning and the water was warm so we didn’t mind too much.
The group headed out into the waves between the flags. This is the safest part of the beach as it is always patrolled by lifeguards.
The waves were slightly choppy due to the wind, but everyone did amazing! I even spotted Hinata catching a wave with no hands! Go girl!!
I hope you all enjoyed body boarding! Have a safe and happy weekend!
Yesterday we headed down to the beach for some Bodyboarding!
Summer is still here and it was beautifully warm in and out of the water 🙂
We collected the boards from the wonderful team at Let’s Go Surfing, then I gave the students a quick demonstration on the beach before they headed into waves!
The waves were pretty small but they all managed to catch a few and had lots of fun, which is the important thing!
We all walked together in the beautiful sunshine down to the centre of Byron. First stop was to the lovely people of Let’s go Surfing, where we picked up our bodyboards and extra sunscreen. Next stop – Main Beach! 😀
And they’re off! 😀
We made sure to swim at the area where the lifeguards were on duty. Look out for the flag poles to keep away from any rips and stay safe! 🙂
Keep an eye on the March Activity Calendar for our upcoming activities – if you love water sports, you will see we are also doing a surf lesson at the end of the month! 😉
