Yesterday’s activity was Pot Plant Painting! As it was such a beautiful day we decided to sit in the common area downstairs where we had both sun and shade.
We had terracotta pots, a variety of paints, and painting essentials. All the many brushes came in handy.
Hard at work! It was not easy deciding what to paint, but we had a lot of laughs while thinking about it.
Our plants are called Portulaca. They are a type of succulent and will thrive in the Byron Bay sun.
Well done everyone. Fantastic results!

Hello everyone, my name is Dianna and if you haven’t already seen me around campus, I’ll be happily replacing the wonderful Alisha as Activities and Student Service Officer while she’s on maternity leave.
I grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand and had been living in Sydney, Australia for almost 18 years. I decided to move to idyllic Byron Bay just over a year ago and have been loving it ever since. Even though I love New Zealand I definitely call Australia my home and hope to stay in the Byron region indefinitely.
My passion is travelling and every year I like to book a trip somewhere new. I’ve been lucky enough to do two trips this year where I spent a month in Italy and then two weeks in Scotland. When I’m not travelling I love to keep fit with biking and running. If I have any spare time I will usually spend it doing a craft like jewellery making, or macrame plus I love to read. I’m also obsessed with Japanese food!
If you need to ask me anything, come see me! I’ll be in the office everyday or running the activities. I look forward to meeting you all and having a chat.

Last Friday afternoon’s activity was the very popular Wine & Cheese Tasting! 😀
Students from the morning and afternoon classes gathered at 5.30pm to enjoy the free wine and cheese that we had prepared in front of the school.
The students were welcome to help themselves to the range of wines including: Merlot, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose and Moscato.
We also had seven different cheeses to try: brie, camenbert, gouda, gorgonzoula, apricot & cream cheese, spring onion & chives and tasty cheddar.
It didn’t take long before everything was devoured and the students set off into town to continue the Friday celebrations 🙂
I hope you all had a great weekend! 🙂

Our happy student this month is the wonderful fun-loving Johnny from Japan 😀 Johnny is always smiling and always keen to have a chat. He is the life and party at our student nights and I have been told he has some seriously impressive dance moves up his sleeve!
Why did you choose to come to Australia and to Lexis Byron Bay in particular?
I firstly saw Lexis Byron Bay blog and noticed there was only a few Japanese students and a nice mix of people from different countries. I have also heard great things about Byron Bay and its magic. I hope my dreams come true while I am here.
What do you remember about your first day in school?
The day I started there was only 2 other new students. I was very tired and a little bit nervous for my test, but it was okay in the end. It was a good memory.
What are your English goals and how is Lexis helping you achieve them?
I want to improve my English. Eventually I want to be a fluent native speaker and find a job where I speak English. In class we have a lot of time to speak with other students, which is very helpful.
What do you like most about your classes?
The conversations. Compared to when I studied in the USA, i find it a lot easier here.
You’ve joined many of our activities. What has been your favourite one so far?
I like the student parties and always hanging out with my friends.
Outside school, what is your favourite thing about Byron Bay?
Watching sunset and sunrise. The nightclubs and lots of socialising.. sometimes its crazy! 😀
What would you say to anyone thinking of coming to study at Lexis Byron Bay?
Lexis students are all very friendly. They are all happy to speak with you. It is important to talk to people from other countries, at Lexis there is a great mix of people from all over the world so it is always great practice.
