Check out the activities we have planned exclusively for our Lexis students in August!

Joining the activities is a great way to make new friends, practice your English in a social environment , and of course have fun!!

Throughout the month we always have a variety of different activities, with a mix of sports, cooking and craft, so there’s something for everyone!

We have free Yoga with the wonderful Jimmy every Monday at 2pm– in Room 8.

We continue our Coffee Club on Tuesday’s at 2pm; join me for coffee, Tim Tams, games and conversations!

GIL (Guided Individual Learning) runs every day 2-3pm in Room 8 (except Monday’s are in Room 2). Come along to get help with anything from homework to vocabulary to writing your resume.

Teacher Kristy runs a free Guided Meditation on Wednesday morning between 8-8:30am in room 8. (Except for Wednesday 7th)

We continue our friendly Soccer Match with Byron Bay English Language School (BBELS) every second Wednesday at 2:30pm. Meet in front of the school around 2pm and we can all walk down to the soccer field together!

We have a very special event on Friday 16th August.. RSPCA Cupcake day!! Everybody is encouraged to get involved and help raise money for animals in shelters across Australia. Thursday 15th we will bake together in the student kitchen in preparation. It will be a gold coin donation for everyone who would like to enjoy the sweets during the break and after 2pm. We will have prizes available for the group who raises the most money for the charity! We ask that you also provide a plate from home and you are welcome to invite your friends from outside of school. Our goal is to raise at least $300 to help save animals lives!

On Thursday 22nd we have the activity ‘Pot Plant Painting’. Come and enjoy a relaxing afternoon painting a terracotta pot and planting a seedling to keep!

On Thursday 29th July we have the incredibly talented Mina Sangsari coming back to take another free Hip Hop lesson!

Our last Friday of the month we will have a Beer Tasting afternoon to start the weekend off right!

We also have some fantastic weekend activities happening with Byron Bay Tour Company & Happy Travels!

Beach Activities and Surf Lessons! 31st July

Yesterday afternoon’s activity involved perfect waves and warm sunshine down at the beach! Some of our students took a surf lesson with Blake from ‘Lets Go Surfing’ and the rest of us enjoyed a nice walk and some time relaxing!

You can’t beat a glorious winters day in Byron Bay!

Our surfing students were catching the waves at Belongil Beach. We tried to watch them but they had gone too far down the beach for us walking. Instead we found a nice spot by ‘The Wreck’ and set up a picnic rug. We had our usual coffee club treats (Tim-Tams) and great conversations.

We even had some furry friends come and say hello <3

Some of us paddled in the water to cool off after the walk. We also practiced our soccer skills for this weeks game!!

It was a wonderful afternoon! Thank you Naoki, Nanami and Kana for showing great leadership skills and being so kind to our junior students!

Cape Byron Lighthouse Tour! July 29th

It was a stunning day yesterday for a walk up the Lighthouse with our junior students.

If you look closely in this photo, directly above Himari, you can see the splash of a whale!

Will from The Byron Bay Tour Company was kind enough to drop us at Watego’s beach to start our walk. We had some time to enjoy the waves and play in the sand before starting the journey up the hill.

There was a lot of beautiful scenery and wildlife to enjoy on the way up!

Schuichi was lucky enough to have Daijiro help him as it was a very step walk! 😀

The view from the top of the lighthouse was beautiful. We were lucky enough to see lots of whales and sail boats out on the horizon. Our students got many beautiful photos.

New Starters! 29th July

A warm welcome to our 17 Japanese junior students and Maria, our General English student joining us at Lexis Byron Bay this week!

Maria is from Spain. She works as an architect. Her passion is yoga and Pilates. She is a teacher of both and she practices every day. She also loves to walk and swim and enjoy the wild life and nature. She hopes to improve her English to help her communicate with different people and to help her when she travels.

Miho is from Japan. Her hobbies include playing tennis and computer games. In the future she wants to go to university to become a doctor so English is important to be able to speak with foreign patients. She would also like to travel to English speaking countries like America and UK.

Daijiro is from Japan. His hobbies include playing soccer, but he has had an injury and can no longer play. He still enjoys watching games. In the future he would like to be a chef. He loves eating and cooking and hopes to one day own a traditional Japanese restaurant.

Kota is from Japan. His hobbies include listening to One Direction. His favourite subject is P.E. because he really likes sports. In the future he hopes to be a farmer, for now he is studying about rice to be successful.

Mai is from Japan. Her hobbies include art, especially drawing and she loves animals. She also likes comics including Dragonball Z and Onepiece. She has always wanted to come to Australia as she has been told by her teachers and friends that it is a great place.

Schuichi is from Japan. He enjoys books and he likes sushi. He has a lot of energy and likes to make people laugh!

Kosuke is from Japan. His favourite sport is baseball. He enjoys playing it as well as watching. He also enjoys comic books. His favourite is ‘My Hero Academy’. He is excited to be in Australia to learn about the culture and nature. He always wants to learn native English. In the future he hopes to work in foreign countries.

Kokoro is from Japan. She has a twin brother. She enjoys playing table tennis, she has played for 6 years! She wants to learn English so she can communicate with people from all over the world and tell them about Japanese culture.

Akane is from Japan. She has 2 beautiful pet birds named Moca and Toto. She enjoys taking pictures of them. She believes English is a very important language and hopes in the future to study animals.

Yu is from Onomichi City in Hiroshima, Japan. There are many temples and the sea is beautiful. He enjoys baseball and supports the Carp team. He would like to learn more about the culture of Australia and in the future hopes to have perfect English.

Sawa is from Japan. Her hobbies include listening to music. Her favourite group is ‘TWICE’. She hopes to one day be a junior high school teacher because she likes English and has had very nice teachers in the past.

Moeka is from Japan. Her hobbies include drawing pictures and oil painting. She is looking forward to seeing the nature in Australia and hopes to draw many pictures of it. She hopes in her future to become an artist. She would like to talk to many people from all over the world.

Himari is from Ehime, Japan. She now lives in Hiroshima. Her hobbies include playing violin. She is very happy to be in Australia and hopes to improve her English.

Suzuka is from Japan. Her hobbies include playing violin. She also enjoys making sweets and watching baseball. She is interested in Australian culture, history and nature. She hopes to improve her English so in the future she can live in interesting countries.

Nakamoto is from Japan. He enjoys listening to music and playing tennis. He enjoys inventing things that make people smile 🙂 He hopes to make friends while he is here and improve his English.

Yuna is from Japan. She enjoys playing and listening to music. She plays the drums, the trumpet and the Japanese harp ‘Koto’. She wants to improve her English to be able to communicate with people from other countries.

Crepe Making Competition! July 25th

Thursday afternoon we had our Crepe Making Competition in the student kitchen!

We split into groups and made our own crepe mixture following the recipe provided.

We then took turns making our own crepes.

We had a range of delicious toppings to decorate. The competition was judged on overall appearance and creativity!

They all looked fabulous and tasted even better!!

Dream Catcher Making! July 24th

Yesterday we had a creative afternoon making our own dream catchers!

We had a range of different fabrics and materials to work with and an assortment of beads, feathers and shells to decorate with.

The first step was to cover our hoop with with twine, wool or fabric so that you could no longer see the metal underneath. Then came the difficult part of creating the web. We watched a YouTube video to help us and once we had the hang of it, it became a lot easier.

They turned out beautiful. Well done!! 😀 I was especially impressed with Naoki who displayed immense patience and concentration in completing his dream catcher!! I am so proud of how they all turned out.

A warm welcome to our 3 new students joining us at Lexis Byron Bay today!

Raul is from Spain and he is here with his girlfriend Noemi. He works for a company who fabricate different seeds including; corn seeds, tomatoes, cucumber and melons. His hobbies include playing soccer, running and going to the cinema. It has always been a dream of his dreams to come to Australia because he feels it is an amazing country! In the future Raul hopes to come back and visit other city’s.

Noemi is Raul’s girlfriend and is also from Spain! She currently works as a kindergarten and primary school teacher. In her spare time she loves going out with friends and family and enjoys travelling and learning about new cultures. She is so excited to be in Australia to improve her English and experience the Byron Bay lifestyle.

Juliette is from France. Her favourite things to do are travel, hang out with friends and eat chocolate chip cookies! 😀 She also plays rugby and enjoys taking care of animals. Juliette hopes to improve her English so in the future when she travels she finds it easier to communicate.

Wine and Cheese Afternoon! July 19th

Last Friday we ended the week with Wine and Cheese Tasting. It was another glorious Winter’s afternoon so we made the most of the sunshine and sat outside the front of school.

We had a great selection of cheeses including; Apricot and Almond Cream Cheese, Gouda, Brie and Camembert cheese.

As well as the wine we also had a selection of crackers and strawberries to enjoy.

It was a lovely way to start the Splendour weekend!! I hope you all had fun.

Whale Watching

So last weekend a group of students went whale watching with the Byron Bay Dive Centre…..

Each year, between May and November, southern hemisphere Humpback whales travel north from their Antarctic summer feeding grounds, past Cape Byron headland, and on to their breeding and birthing grounds in the sub-tropic. Once hunted to the brink of extinction, humpback whales now number about 80,000.

Fun Facts about Humpback Whales:

these beautiful creatures can grow up to 18 metres long
their flippers can grow up to 5 metres long, which is the largest appendage in the world.
weighing a whopping 40 tons!! thats about half the size of a blue whale.
like a human fingerprint, the tail of each humpback whale is unique.
they have two blowholes on top of their heads

The whales will be around until November so make sure you come and see us down at the travel desk and book your tour ….

It was a beautiful Thursday morning to check out the Byron Farmers markets at the new location at the Cavanbah Centre.

The farmers markets are always great for saving money and getting the freshest produce available whilst supporting local farmers!! Not to mention the great breakfast and coffee options available and the quality live music and entertainment. What a great way to start the day!

If you missed the school excursion and are interested in visiting the Farmers Markets you can catch the free magic bus every Thursday morning from Johnston Street bus stop. You can easily make it there and back before class starts at 9am 🙂

Table Tennis Tournament! July 18th

We had our monthly table tennis tournament in the student lounge yesterday afternoon. It was another stunning day and the swell was good so a lot of students had decided to go to the beach instead..

But there was still some fierce competition around!

Our first match was Fernanda vs Nanami.

Thank you to the wonderful Sagiri keeping track of the score. This round the winner was Fernanda!

The next match was Josefina vs Sagiri, with Josefina winning this round.

It was then Naoki vs myself. I started out strong but in the end, Naoki claimed the victory!

Our second heat was Fernanda vs Naoki and then Fernanda vs Josefina..

Fernanda was our undefeated champion for this month and took home the 6 pack prize!

Soccer Game against BBELS! July 17th

We had another beautiful sunny afternoon for our regular soccer match against Byron Bay English Language School this week.

Naoki, Nanami, Sagiri, Patricia and Marisa made up our team and we also had Max and Moon from BBELS to balance out the numbers.

It was a very fun game to watch. The score remained close throughout the entire game. In the final quarter BBELS scored 3 goals making the end total 11-8 to them.
