Baking Koala Cupcakes with Kristy! June 20th

Yesterday afternoon’s activity involved our favourite native Australian marsupial, excessive amounts of sugar and a whole lot of creativity!!

KOALA

It was Koala Cupcake day!! πŸ™‚

Koala cupcakes (1)

Unfortunately I missed out on the fun and deliciousness as I was away sick, but thankfully the wonderful and clever Kristy was able to step up and help out!

The end results looked great, well done!

Kristy mentioned that to get the perfect shade of grey for the icing, it helped first mixing the food colouring into a smaller bowl and then adding it to the rest of the icing mixture to prevent it from turning out too dark. A very helpful tip to remember in the future. Thanks Kristy.

After baking the cupcakes, it is important that they cool down before taking on their transformation into Koala’s. Here the students are fanning their cupcakes. πŸ˜€ After this technique proved to be too much work, they went into the fridge for a few more minutes, just to be sure they were cool enough.

Then it was time to get creative..

They look so cute and delicious! Next time we will find an alternative to the licorice bullet’s that we used for noses as apparently nobody really liked the taste of them. πŸ™‚ But all in all I am very impressed! I hope you enjoyed eating them as much as you did making them!
