Yesterday afternoon’s activity involved our favourite native Australian marsupial, excessive amounts of sugar and a whole lot of creativity!!
It was Koala Cupcake day!! 🙂
Unfortunately I missed out on the fun and deliciousness as I was away sick, but thankfully the wonderful and clever Kristy was able to step up and help out!
The end results looked great, well done!
Kristy mentioned that to get the perfect shade of grey for the icing, it helped first mixing the food colouring into a smaller bowl and then adding it to the rest of the icing mixture to prevent it from turning out too dark. A very helpful tip to remember in the future. Thanks Kristy.
After baking the cupcakes, it is important that they cool down before taking on their transformation into Koala’s. Here the students are fanning their cupcakes. 😀 After this technique proved to be too much work, they went into the fridge for a few more minutes, just to be sure they were cool enough.
Then it was time to get creative..
They look so cute and delicious! Next time we will find an alternative to the licorice bullet’s that we used for noses as apparently nobody really liked the taste of them. 🙂 But all in all I am very impressed! I hope you enjoyed eating them as much as you did making them!

Yesterday afternoon’s activity was Aussie Food Tasting in Room 1!
We had a range of delicious.. (and some not so delicious) Aussie favourites to taste.
The sausage rolls and mince pies were the first to be demolished.. definitely a crowd favourite!
We also had macadamia nuts, caremello koala’s, musk sticks, lamingtons, tim-tams, milo, kirks fizzy drinks, vegemite sandwiches, fairy bread, Anzac biscuits and red frogs to try.
As you can tell from the facial expressions of everyone in this video..
Not everyone enjoyed vegemite for the first time, it’s certainly a taste to be acquired! 🙂
Hinako was the only student who did enjoy vegemite and Ayumi of course loving the tim-tams 🙂
Camila, not sure about the musk sticks..?
Cyntia and Nami tasting Milo for the first time. Perfect technique with the heaped tea spoon! The more milo and the less milk, the better! 😉
Hikaru.. slightly puzzled by the mince pies.
I think Luc was the only one in the class who actually enjoyed the musk sticks
I hope you all enjoyed at least some of the Aussie food we tried! I am interested to know what other food you have enjoyed during your time in Australia. Roslane recommends the kangaroo burger from the Railway Hotel and the I can safely say the fish and chips from Hunky Dory are delicious. 🙂

Yesterday afternoon we had the very energetic Yuka come in and take our students for a 45 minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Pilates Class!
We had a great turn out of students come along to sweat it out!
It was very intense, from start to finish and by the end we were all exhausted. It really was a great work out. Has anyone else got sore muscles today??
We are lucky enough to have Yuka come back next Wednesday at 2pm to take another class, it will be a great warm up before we have our regular soccer match against BBELS at 3.30pm! I’m looking forward to it all ready 🙂

I’m young bloke 25 y.o and have done a fair bit of traveling and backpacking myself.
Really I would just like to host some young and easy going backpackers who are keen to give me a hand with odd jobs on the farm. In exchange for a few hours work a day I will give you a great place to stay and a great experience exploring the area! I can show you the best places in the area as well as really nice places to visit which not many backpackers would otherwise get the chance to see!
We can share some beers over a fire after a days working and exploring the area.. I know some great spots for hiking, secret waterfalls, swimming spots, surfing.
We also have a tennis court on the farm so you would be welcome to play as much as you like!
I am really easy going and flexible with how many days you would like to help out. But it would be great to have you on the farm for at least 1-2 weeks and then if you would like to extend then we can discuss.
Typical work will involve a few hours of cleaning up the farm (fencing, clearing fallen down trees, gardening, lawn mowing, slashing on the tractor and helping me do odd jobs around the place).
It would be really nice to host a couple of a pair of mates who are travelling together and want to experience a great stay on a farm.
I can provide you with your own separate cottage (with two bedrooms) bathroom and then we can share the kitchen and cooking together!
I am also keen to do some more surfing in the afternoons! The beach is only 20mins away so if you are a keen surfer or would like to learn that would be great also!
But please note this is not a paid work position. Just a chance to offer a place to stay and share some great experiences on the farm and in the amazing northern rivers region!
