This morning we had great fun in the kitchen making Brigadeiros! They are a Brazilian sweet – a real favourite and a traditional birthday treat seen in Brazil.
Brigadeiros are typically small, bite-size treats, made from just a few simple ingredients: condensed milk, cocoa powder and butter – all individually hand rolled and covered with chocolate sprinkles and nuts.
We had s small group today as it’s our first week back after the Christmas holidays. Together with Elena and Marcia, we cooked up a storm! We started out by combining the condensed milk with the cocoa and butter. This had to be stirred over a medium heat for a long time – stirring it constantly to ensure it did not burn. When you drag the spoon through the mixture and the space is visible on the bottom of the pan for a few seconds, that’s how you know it is thick enough. We then popped the mixture into a bowl in the fridge to cool for a few minutes. It was quite a lot of stirring so the girls took turns and it gave us plenty of time to chat about our Christmas holidays and new year celebrations! 😀
The fun part was then turning the mixture into the brigadeiros! We used a selection of nuts, coconut and sprinkles for our toppings. Check out the results! Delicious 🙂
