Morning Sushi Making! 6 December

For yesterday’s morning activity, we ventured into the [delicious] art of sushi making! šŸ™‚

We started out with our core ingredients of sushi rice, rice wine vinegar, nori seaweed sheets, soy sauce and the all-important bamboo mats – to roll the sushi. For the filling, we had a choice of smoked salmon, tuna, avocado, cucumber, carrots, cream cheese and mayonnaise.

The first thing to do was get the rice cooking – made all the easier by using a special rice cooker! Two of the students took charge of this, while everyone else set to prepping all the delicious fillings. Carrots and cucumbers were peeled and chopped to perfection – in long strips, to fit the long sushi rolls.

When the rice was cooked, it had to be cooled and prepared with the rice wine vinegar, sugar and salt. The rolling mats were prepped using some cling film to cover them – a great tip we got from Koko! šŸ™‚ This makes them easier to use and keeps them clean.

Only one of the group (Nicol) had ever rolled sushi before so it was new to us all. Everyone did an amazing job!

Check out the amazing results!

And the best bit – enjoying it all at the end! šŸ™‚
