Last Thursday we had our third successful Sweet Exchange!
This time our chosen charity was Positive Change for Marine Life. Based in Byron Bay, they have projects in various countries aimed at protecting our oceans and marine life.
We felt this was the perfect charity for us to raise awareness and money for! Everyone here at Lexis Byron loves the ocean, it is one of the main reasons our students pick Byron for their studies, so it’s really important that we are all aware of the impact we are having on it and small changes we can make to stop this.
One of PCFML’s volunteers, Louisa, kindly came in to educate us on all the great things the charity is working on and letting us know what we can do to help.
On Thursday all of our students and staff were encouraged to bake or buy something sweet to bring in and share with their school friends and teachers!
All the food was then set up in one of our classrooms ready for break time! Everyone had to donate a minimum of one gold coin ($1 or $2) and could then help themselves to as much cake, biscuits and chocolate as they could eat!
Judit, one of our lovely students who is very passionate about helping our planet, put some facts on the board detailing the effect us using plastic bags and straws can have on the ocean, and little changes we can do to prevent this.
We had a excellent variety of food brought in, including muffins, banana bread, Tim Tams, vegan brownies, bannoffee pie, cookies, caramel cake bars, shortbread, brigadeiro and a fruit platter!
Thank you to everyone who brought something in and everyone who donated, we have raised…
$158.70 to help the oceans!
