We have another great month of activities planned for our Lexis Byron Bay students!!
We start the month with a Pizza Party on the 3rd!! At 12.15pm we’ll be providing free pizza for all our students to enjoy!
On the 4th we then have the new activity of making your own Dream Catcher!! This will run at 11am and 2pm in the Student Lounge.
We then have our monthly Table Tennis Tournament on the 5th at 2pm!! For afternoon students we have a trip to the Farmers Market at 9am on this day, and also on the 26th!
We end the week with Body Boarding! Meet at reception at 11am or 2pm and we’ll head down to the beach together for your free board hire!
On the 9th we have a special Upcycling with Adrienne for our morning activity at 11am. Bring along an old piece of clothing you no longer wear and Adrienne will help you make it into something new you would wear!! For our morning students we have Yoga at 2pm in Room 8.
For our afternoon students they will have their Yoga class for this week on the 11th with Fee; 11am in Room 8.
After the success of this months, we have another Cooking with Bianca activity on the 11th at 2pm; this time it will be sweet snacks!
On the 12th we have Alba coming in to teach you how to Flamenco dance! This will be at 5.30pm so all our students can enjoy this activity together!
We have a Volleyball match at 11am and 2pm on the 13th; either at the beach or in the garden!
The following Monday, the 16th, we go back to having both our 11am and 2pm Yoga sessions on the Monday until the end of the month; in Room 8.
Sample some wines with Wine Tasting on the 18th; 2pm and 5.30pm in the Student Lounge!
We’ll be showing more of our creative sides on the 19th with Boomerang Painting; at 11am and 2pm in the Student Lounge.
On the 20th we have a Beach Picnic for our afternoon students (at 11am) and Cricket for our morning students (2pm at the beach or in the garden)!
Olmo will be coming in on the 24th for Slacklining at 2pm!
There will be a special 1 hour Surf Lesson for just $20 with Let’s Go Surfing on the 25th. Please come see me in reception if you’d like to book this!
We have a Soccer match at 11am and 2pm on the 27th; in the garden or at the beach.
For Halloween we will be having a BBQ on the 31st. Everyone is encouraged to come to school in Fancy Dress and there will be prizes for the best outfit! This will be at 12.15pm in front of school.
Once a week we will continue to have Coffee Lounge (Tim Tam Lounge!) for our morning students at 2pm, and for our afternoon students we are introducing Breakfast Club at 11am (days vary each week)!
Job Club is every Wednesday in Room 8 (with GIL). Myself or a teacher will be able to help you write resumes/cover letters, look for jobs, apply for TFN’s and give you advice on gaining your RSA or Barista license!
GIL (Guided Individual Learning) runs every day from 12-1pm and 2-3pm in Room 8. Come along to get help with anything from homework to vocabulary to writing your resume.
We will also continue to enjoy our Student Nights at Cheeky Monkeys every Tuesday night – meet at BWT @ 8pm first to get your drinks, food and fun!

It’s a beautiful day, the sun is shining and everyone has that Friday feeling at Lexis Byron!
As you can see by the giant smiles on their faces, the students have spent their lunch relaxing and chatting in the sunshine!
In the afternoon the General English students have their options classes. They are usually full of lots of fun, games and laughter!
This week in Harriett’s Speaking and Writing class the students discussed famous super stars. The students enjoyed playing the guess who celebrity game. Some students really got into character using different hats and props!
The class then decided to create their own Lexis English Celebrity talk show!
There was a variety of interviews in the classroom with super star guests such as Rihanna and Selena Gomez. It was great fun and a great way to practice speaking and listening!

Our teachers often take their students there as part of their lesson, which is always a fun and delicious excursion for everyone! Last week Kathleen took her Intermediate class to practice food and cooking vocabulary; they all had a great morning in the sunshine and picked up some healthy treats!

One of our wonderful students, Bianca, kindly led a Cooking Class for some of her fellow Lexis students today!
Bianca studied Nutrition and Gastronomy at University and owned her own restaurant in Brazil where she worked as a Chef. She loves sharing her passion with others so offered to run an activity to teach us how to make quick and healthy toasties on a student budget!
As Bianca was doing the preparation and assigning people jobs she gave us lots of great cooking tips, like the best way to cut, how to tell how an avocado is ripe (it’s not by squeezing them all!) and flavours and textures that work well together.
Our fillings included avocado, mushrooms, tomatoes, scrambled eggs and bocconcini, flavored with lemon, snow pea sprouts, basil and leek!
We all then sat down together to enjoy our delicious creations!
Many of the students asked if Bianca could do this every day, but we’ve settled for one day next month! Thank you so much for sharing your love with us Bianca 🙂

Lorena lives in Barcelona, Spain where she works as a vet. She is very happy and grateful to have this job as she has always had a special relationship with animals and loves being able to help them. She has come to Australia not only to improve her English, but also to travel, practice surfing and to see the native wildlife!
Thomas is from Switzerland, where he lives with his brother near Davos in the Swiss Alp. His main hobby is to restore old classic cars and drive them around Switzerland’s beautiful streets and mountains. He also loves travelling and this is why he wants to improve his English, so he can speak with people from all over the world. He chose Australia for his studies as he has only ever heard good things from his friends who have been here before!
Elisa is from Italy and loves dancing and reading. She has just finished studying Fashion Design in Como, near Milan. She wanted to come to Australia to study as it is very different from where she lives, much more relaxed! She also chose Australia because of her love for animals; she is looking forward to seeing kangaroos and swimming with sharks while she is here! When she returns to Italy she would like to go to University to become a vet.
Chiara is from Switzerland, the Italian part. She has a bachelor in Interior Design but currently works as a architect. She loves to travel and wants to improve her English for her summer of travel! She will study with us until February and then travel Indonesia. She is looking forward to her time here and escaping the winter in Switzerland!
Virginia is from Monza, Italy; famous for hosting the Formula 1 and one of the biggest parks in Europe! She loves animals and cooking Italian food for her family and friends. She is really looking forward to learning English and surfing while in Byron Bay, and also enjoying the beautiful weather in this wonderful country!
Brice is from France and a basketball player. He speaks fluent French and also Spanish as he lived there for a while, but now he would like to improve his English so he can study in Business School. He came to Byron Bay on the recommendation of our moved loved former student Raphael Mesplede; we’re sure he’ll love it here just as much!
Ruth is from Switzerland and here with her husband, Benjamin. Together they have studied English in New Zealand and will now study with us for 12 weeks, before visiting South America! Her hobbies include travelling, swimming and reading.
Benjamin, Ruth’s husband, is also from Switzerland and together they have a son and daughter. He enjoys swimming, diving, skiing and walking. They are both wanting to improve their English for their travels around Australia and South America, which they will be doing until August next year!
Soichiro, from Japan, enjoys basketball, boxing, scuba diving and singing. He wants to be able to speak fluent English as he plans to be a singer, designer and business man and would like to be able to work all around the world. He chose Byron Bay for his studies as he loves nature, music and the fashion here!
Santiago, from Spain, describes himself as a positive person who loves sports, cinema and travel. He has just finished studying Law in Spain and would now like to obtain a high level of English for his future job. He chose to study in Australia because of friends recommendations, the weather and the nice people!
Rafael, from Spain, would prefer to be known as Rafa! He enjoys reading, sports, travelling and hanging out with friends. He finished his bachelor in Economics at the University of Granada in June and is now enjoying a lovely gap year between his Degree and Masters. He chose to come to Byron Bay to improve his English as it’s a completely different culture and lifestyle for him!
Noemi is from Switzerland, where she works as a nurse. When she’s not working she likes to go out with her friends, bake cakes and travel with her family. It has been a dream of hers for many years to come to Australia so she is really happy to be here now! After her 4 weeks of study at Lexis she is looking forward to traveling the East Coast of Australia and seeing more of this beautiful country!

We had 5 beers for the students to try: Fixation (Indian Pale Ale), Cascade (Pale Ale), Fore Fathers (English Pale Ale), Red Stripe (Lager Beer) 4 Pine (Cherry & Coconut).
The students each had a table to fill in, guessing the flavours they could taste, the country or Australian state they thought it was from, the alcohol percentage and price!
The favourites were Fixation IPA and Red Stripe! The Cherry and Coconut 4 Pines was not very popular!

Bruno, from Brazil, graduates from Claudia’s Upper Immediate class. He has studied with us at Lexis for 32 weeks and we’re really going to miss having his smiley face around campus! His positive attitude always brightened up the classroom and he was a joy to be around. He is a dedicated hard-working student and we are sure he will go on to do well in the future!
Gustavo, from Brazil, graduates from Julia and Elizabeth’s IELT’s class. He has also been studying with us for a considerable amount of time; 20 glorious weeks! We have loved having him here at Lexis with his friendly personality and great sense of humour. Yesterday at Coffee Club we played a few rounds of Scattergories while we enjoyed our coffee and Tim Tams!

My name is Harriett but you can call me Harry! I am super excited to be a new member of the Byron Team working in the sunshine as a new Teacher / Front Desk Support Officer.
I am 26 , from the UK and arrived in Australia in June for my working Holiday visa. I have been living in Melbourne for the past 3 months but am very happy to be swapping the rain and cold for the beach and surf in Byron Bay!
I have spent the last two years living and teaching English and Art in Thailand. I am so excited to get back into the classroom to have lots of fun sharing my love for English with everyone at Lexis!
I will be running the morning activities at 11am and teaching some classes in the afternoons.

Martina is from Milan, Italy. She enjoys walking, studying and traveling. She has just finished high school where she studied French, German and English. In the future she plans to study Science of the Earth at University. She choose to come to Australia as her friends told her how good English schools are in here, both for improving the language and yourself!
Marta Camilla is also from Milan, Italy. She loves reading, cooking, listening to music and all things beauty related. She will study with us at Lexis for the next 8 weeks and when she returns to Milan she will be attending a Makeup Academy so she can turn her biggest hobby into a job!
Lydie is from Switzerland. She loves festivals, music and people! She also enjoys being in the mountains for the fresh air and wonderful views. She came to Australia as it has always been a dream of hers and friends recommended Byron Bay as one of their favourite places. She isn’t sure what she’d like to do in the future but she is hoping her time here and travels will help her decide on this!
Marta is from Spain and has just finished her studying Economy and Marketing at University in Valencia. She loves sports and is really looking forward to being able to surf everyday now she is in Australia! She wants to improve her English as it is important for a lot of jobs in Spain!
Lea lives in Switzerland with her parents, 3 brothers and one sister. In her free time she enjoys going out with her friends, spending time and the lake, and hiking with her family. She worked as a shop assistant before coming to Australia and when she returns she will work in a sports shop selling ski and snowboarding equipment. She chose Byron Bay for her studies because of the beautiful beaches and lovely people! She wants to improve her English for her travels around Australia!
Irene is from Spain. She loves the beach and surfing, so Byron Bay was the perfect study location for her! She also enjoys reading and writing and is the co-author of a book in Spain! She has just finished her Bachelor Degree in Audiovisual Design and worked in a production company, however when she returns she would like to find a job in the study sector. She wants to improve her English as she feels it is the most important language in the world and will help her find a good job!
Adriana lives in Bern, Switzerland. Her hobbies include singing, going to the gym, playing volleyball and spending time with her family and friends. She will study with us at Lexis for 2 months and then travel Australia for 2 months. She is wanting to improve her English for her travels and is looking forward to meeting lots of new people along the way!
Han (Yonghwan) is from Korea and loves listening to hip hop music and exercising. He has taken a semester off from University to come to Australia for a year; where he will study English, work and travel! He wants to be able to speak English fluently so he can meet people from all over the world during his travels!
Charlotte, from Switzerland, enjoys playing the guitar and dancing. She also enjoys sports, like jogging in the summer and skiing in the winter! After she finished school she completed a three year apprenticeship for a health insurance company. She wants to improve her English so she can get a good job when she returns to Switzerland!
Kaori is from Chigasaki City in Japan. She enjoys travelling, shopping and playing tennis. She worked as a doctor in Japan, specialising as a gastroenterologist. She would like to improve her English so she is able to complete the OET (Occupational English Test)!
Samira is from Switzerland. She enjoys yoga, skiing, hiking and spending time with friends and family. She works as a hairdresser and makeup artist. She wants to improve her English so she can meet people from all over the world on the travels she plans to do after her 8 weeks studying with us at Lexis!

They all studied at Lexis Byron Bay over the last summer; with half completing our Cambridge Course and the other half studying in our General English classes.
After forming such great friendships during their time in Byron Bay they decided to reunite in Switzerland to have a catch up and reminisce, and in true Aussie style done it with a BBQ!
It was Valerie who started the plans and after a couple of months of messages and calls between them all they finally made it happen!

Today at Coffee Club one of our Swiss students bought along their Jass playing cards and taught us a typical Swiss card game!!
They explained there’s lots of different games you can play with the Jass cards, but we just started with one of the simpler ones today! Maybe over the next few months we’ll learn some more 🙂

Silvan, from Switzerland, has worked as an optician for the last 4 years. He enjoys sports, with his absolute favourite being rowing. He came to Australia as many of his friends have been here and told him how amazing it is! He really likes the lifestyle and weather in Byron and is here to improve his English so he can use it on his travels!
Jhon, from Brazil, has been living in Byron Bay for the past 3 years. He has completed his diploma of hospitality, advanced diploma also, and will study at the University of BPA for the next 2 years. He is here studying English with us at Lexis so he can get a good mark on his IELTs exam and in the future apply for a sponsorship visa!
Louis is from Geneva, Switzerland. His hobbies include ice hockey, football, chilling with friends and travelling. Next year he will finish his studies in Landscape gardening and find work within this sector. He chose Byron Bay for his studies after many recommendations from friends of what an incredible place it is!
Gabriela is from Brazil. She has lived and worked in the Gold Coast for the past 6 months but has decided Byron Bay is where she’d prefer to be! She loves the nature, beaches and the many activities she’s able to do here. She will study with us for 12 weeks and is really looking to making lots of friends and improving her English at Lexis!
Linda is from the Italian part of Switzerland. She works in gastronomy and says it is very important for her to speak other languages, including English, for her job. It has always been her dream to come to Australia so she is very happy to finally be fulfilling it!
Isabel, from Germany, loves to cook, read and meet up with her friends. She has worked for the past 3 years in the Human Resources department of a hospitality company and just finished her studies to get a human resources diploma. After she has finished her 3 weeks studying with us she will stay in Australia until January and then visit Bali for a month!
Oliver is from Switzerland. His hobbies include sports, particularly handball, organising events and going out with friends to clubs. He has completed his apprenticeship in mechanics and worked as this for 2 years before changing to a hiring company. After 7 years working there he decided to quit and travel Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, improving his English along the way!
Esther, from Spain, enjoys many sports but her favourites are skiing and surfing. She loves to travel so she can meet people from all over the world and learn about different cultures. She spends her summers working in the USA as a camp counselor and this summer became the Head of Aquatics. She has a degree in Protocol and Events management so also works in the events industry at music festivals and weddings! Her plan now is to improve her English to find a job and stay in Australia for a few years!
Elia is from the Italian part of Switzerland. He enjoys snowboarding, playing computer games and travelling. He currently works as a painter. He wants to improve his English so he can find work in Australia, and then after this travel the world meeting people from all different countries!
Alfredo, from Spain, loves to surf and play football! He is joined in Australia by his wife and 3 cats and is very happy to be here as it has always been their dream. Back in Spain he works as a chef which he really enjoys. He is excited to improve his English at Lexis Byron!

Johana, one of our students from Peru, very kindly led the activity and showed us all how to make the popular Peruvian dish Ceviche!
She done a great job of taking lead, giving fellow students jobs and talking to everyone about the dish; thank you Johana!
Although I was a bit apprehensive about eating raw fish, Johana explained to me the lime juice you cover it in actually cooks the fish a bit! I’m really glad I did try it though as it was delicious!!!
