Today at Coffee Lounge we had a lovely game of Aussie Heads in the morning and tested our brain power with Riddles in the afternoon!
At the morning session, everyone asked excellent questions and discovered the name on their card very quickly!
Othman even figured out Boomerang with little difficulty, though this is his favourite Coffee Lounge game and he has played it a few times during his studies at Lexis Byron Bay!
In the afternoon, Myuri, Mayumi and Natsumi were enthralled with the riddles and worked their brains hard to figure them out – successfully almost every time too! Tito resorted to google to find the answers but enjoyed the TimTams all the same 🙂

It’s so very close to DECEMBERand we have an exciting month of activities ahead for the last month of the year. These activities are run in both the morning and afternoon especially for our lucky Lexis students!
Every Monday you can stretch out and relax doing Yoga with Stef in Room 8 from 11-12 and with Fee in Room 8 from 2:15 to 3:15.
On Tuesdays we have Coffee Lounge, which gives our students the opportunity to practice their English and get to know each other while enjoying great coffee and yummy TimTams!
We have Kathleen taking the first Wednesday with an Auxiliary Verbs Workshop in the morning and Job Club in the afternoon, followed by another Skateboard session with Flavio and a Photography Workshop with Julia on the subsequent weeks.
On Thursdays we start the month with Cider Tasting to try some delicious ciders from around Australia, we have the next Table Tennis Tournament to see who our next Lexis champion is, then a day of Christmas Cooking as we come up to the festive season, and finally a 1-hour Surf Lesson so you can learn to surf just before the Christmas break!
On Friday this week we have the first 1-hour Surf Lesson of the month, followed by Slacklining with Olmo in the garden, a Volleyball match the next week and to finish off before going on break we celebrate with a Christmas Party!
For the final week of December the school is CLOSED for the Christmas and New Year’s break. School resumes on Tuesday 3rd January.
GIL (Guided Individual Learning) runs every day from 12-1pm and 2-3pm in Room 8. Come along to get help with anything from homework to vocabulary to writing your resume.
We will also continue to enjoy our Student Nights at Cheeky Monkeys every Tuesday night – meet at BWT @ 8pm first to get your drinks, food and fun!

Romain is from Switzerland. He has been studying at Lexis Perth over on the west coast of Australia and is now looking forward to enjoying Lexis Byron Bay on the east coast!
Estelle is from Switzerland where she lives with her parents and older sister called Laura. She is passionate about gymnastics, which she has practiced since she was a child. She has worked for four years in Real Estate and is now hoping to change into a different career, but she is unsure in what area yet. She decided to study in Australia for the weather, the beaches and because it has been her dream to travel here! In the future she hopes to work in other countries.
Raphael is from France. He wants to improve his English because he believes it is important for his future career and is a useful language to know. He chose to study English in Australia for the weather, the people, the beaches and the lifestyle. He does not know what kind of job he would like to do in the future, but is hoping this experience in Australia will help him find his way!
Sibille is from Switzerland. She has been studying at Lexis in Noosa, on the Sunshine Coast, and now joins us at Lexis Byron Bay to continue her studies. She is looking forward to improving her English skills and learning how to surf in Byron Bay!
Axel was born in Switzerland to his French parents and speaks French. He is one of four in his family, with an older sister called Leslie. He plays football for both enjoyment and for his job. He trains or plays five days a week usually, but they have a break at the moment for two months. He is making the most of this break with a trip to Australia to learn English at Lexis Byron Bay!
Kunkae was born in Korea but lives in Japan with his parents and speaks Japanese. He came to Australia on a Working Holiday visa and hopes to improve his English while studying at Lexis Byron Bay.

Samira is from Switzerland and graduates from Claudia’s Intermediate class. She is a dedicated and hardworking student who has put in a lot of effort over the past three months. Her English has improved a lot since she started at Lexis Byron Bay. She is a conscientious student and was a valuable member of the class.
Deborah is from Switzerland and graduates from Claudia’s Intermediate class. She has been a pleasure to have in class. Her English is at a fantastic level and she has shown herself to be a motivated student. She participated well in class activities and was an active contributor to class discussions.

Richard is from Brazil and graduates from Ellie and Anji’s IELTS class. Over his 24 weeks of studying at Lexis Byron Bay, he worked his way from Pre-Intermediate, through Intermediate and Upper Intermediate before finishing up in the IELTS preparation class. He has made such great progress and improved his English in all areas. He is becoming a true Byron local and is loving his job at Skydive Byron Bay.
Mink You is from Korea and graduates from Ellie and Anji’s IELTS class. He is a lovely student who has been a pleasure to have in class. He has worked well on the IELTS material and shown improvement in all areas of his English skills.
Barbara is from Brazil and graduates from Ellie and Anji’s IELTS class. She has been an enjoyable student to teach. She asks extremely intelligent questions to further her understanding of the English language and continues to improve her fluency.

Saya is from Japan and graduates from Iruka and Sue’s Intermediate class. She is a lovely and very clever student, with a good intermediate level of grammar and speaking skills. NooRi is from Korea and graduates from Iruka and Sue’s Intermediate class. She has been a hard worker who consistently puts in her best personal effort to every class. She is a inquisitive learner who enjoys analysing situations and making new discoveries during class activities. She has been a pleasure to teach!
Jules is from Belgium and graduates from Iruka and Sue’s Intermediate class. He is a student who uses higher level thinking strategies to apply learned skills to new situations. He builds well on other’s ideas and expresses his own clearly and persuasively. His English skills, in particular his grammar and writing skills, are at a good Intermediate level.
Celine, Saya, NooRi and Jules graduate from Iruka and Sue’s Intermediate class
Luisa is from Spain and graduates from Kristy’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has improved her English grammar and speaking skills during her time at Lexis Byron Bay. She said she has had a great time in Byron Bay, has made a lot of new friends and the teachers at Lexis have been very good. She is now travelling to Sydney to experience living in an Australian city.
Janine is from Switzerland and graduates from Kristy’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has been a great student during her six weeks at Lexis Byron Bay. She has improved her grammar and speaking skills, and made excellent progress with her writing skills. With a little more practice she will no doubt be ready for Intermediate level soon!
Nozomi is from Japan and graduates from Kristy’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has been an excellent student. She has learned new grammar, improved her writing skills and become more confident with speaking. She has beautiful pronunciation and is a very interesting person to speak with. She is now off to spend some time working on a farm near Melbourne.
Maylis is from France and graduates from Kristy’s Pre-Intermediate class. Over her four weeks at Lexis Byron Bay, she has improved in all areas of her English skills. In particular, she has learned new grammar and increased her confidence in speaking, which she now plans to use and practice with her onward travels.
Bettina is from Switzerland and graduates from Kristy’s Pre-Intermediate class. She has been a pleasure to have in class over the past seven weeks. She has improved her grammar and writing skills, and has gained confidence in speaking. She was a valuable member of the class, making positive contributions to activities and discussions.

Beni is from Switzerland. He has made great progress over the last few months studying the Cambridge course. He has improved across all areas and is always trying to incorporate new vocabulary and grammar into his writing and speaking. His writing is at a high level with a good style which makes it interesting to read. He is a relaxed and friendly student with a positive attitude towards learning and has been a pleasure to have in class.
Vanessa is from Switzerland. She has shown great progress during her time at Lexis Byron Bay with improvements in all areas of her English skills. She is able to apply her knowledge of vocabulary and grammar to all areas of English, in particular with her writing. She has a lovely smile and giggle that brightened the class.
Nicole H is from Switzerland. She grasps new grammar concepts with ease and has improved a lot during her time studying the Cambridge course. She speaks clearly and naturally, using a wide range of vocabulary and colloquial expressions. She is a quick learner, a hard worker and brings a positive attitude to class.
Flurina is from Switzerland. She has worked really hard during her time at Lexis Byron Bay which has resulted in her making excellent progress with her English. Her listening and reading skills were great from the start of the course and continued to improve. She put a lot of effort into her writing and use of English and has shown great improvement in these areas as a result. She has great accuracy with her speaking, an excellent grasp of grammar and has enhanced her ability to express herself in conversation. She has a great energy that positively contributed to the class.
Laetitia is from Switzerland. She has made great improvements to her English skills, particularly excelling in her reading and use of English skills. She has good reading comprehension and a firm grasp of grammar knowledge which she is able to apply to other areas of English use. She made a great effort to speak English outside of class, which helped her to improve her English across all skill areas.
Nicole S is from Switzerland. She has put a lot of effort into her studies and shown great motivation during her time at Lexis Byron Bay. She has improved in her general use of English and achieved the highest result in class in this area. She has a great attitude to learning and was a valued member of the class.
Ayuko is from Japan. She is a hard-working student who has made great progress in all areas of her English skills throughout the Cambridge course. She has become more confident in speaking both one-on-one and in a group. She has a really lovely attitude and has been a pleasure to teach in class.
Philipp is from Switzerland. He has made excellent improvements in his English skills, particularly in applying his new grammar and vocabulary knowledge to his writing and speaking. He is able to make himself understood using clear and grammatically correct language while speaking. He has a good attitude to learning English which will help him to continue improving.

Jarvis is from Germany. He is an intelligent, hardworking student with a great attitude to learning. He has quickly learnt the new grammar and vocabulary presented during the Cambridge course and is able to apply it for general use. He is an excellent listener and has a good memory for what he has learnt in class. All of this has made him a pleasure to teach.
Ronja is from Switzerland. She has made fantastic progress throughout the Cambridge course. She is able to express herself well in English and uses a wide range of vocabulary and grammar in her writing. She was a lovely student to have in class.

Katharina is from Switzerland. She has been lovely to teach as she brings her bright personality and big smile to class. She has participated well in class activities and discussions and has put in a lot of effort to her studies over the duration of the course. She has an excellent ability to express herself and has shown a marked improvement in all areas, especially her English writing skills.

After three months of studying very hard, the Cambridge course has come to an end! It feels like only yesterday we were welcoming the Cambridge students on their first day. Many friends have been made and lots of English learnt over the past three months and we will be sad to say goodbye to this group.
In addition to the Cambridge students leaving, we have 16 students finishing up their General English courses today too. This gave us all the more reason to come together for an Aussie BBQ celebration and what a lovely day it was. 🙂

Today we had two lovely sessions of Coffee Lounge enjoying the coffee and conversation and, of course, the TimTams!
In the morning we played a game where a student would describe an object, animal or place and the others would try to guess what it was. This helped the students practice their English both in speaking and listening, as well as exposing them to new words and using the language in a different way than usual.
In the afternoon we had a few different games going, after first trying to master drinking coffee through TimTams. The students love trying this very Australian way of drinking coffee, with some even making it a part of their morning ritual!
After going through all the TimTams (so quickly!) we got into some games. We had riddles and brainteasers to keep our minds working hard for the hour to not only work out the answer, but to work it out in English!
Some examples of the riddles include: 1. What has a thumb and finger but is not alive?
2. What do you buy but not use, when you use it you don’t know it, and you only use it once?
3. What belongs to you but is used more by others?

Laura is from Colombia but has spent the past six years living in Germany. She is the youngest of her family and her parents, older brother and older sister all still live in Colombia. She loves sports, such as playing volleyball or watching soccer, and enjoys dancing to latin music including the salsa, merenge and bachata. She has just completed her undergraduate studies in Germany, in International Business with Event Management. She plans to start her Masters degree next year in Sport Event and Marketing Management in Berlin. She decided to study in Australia to improve her English to help her future studies and career. She also has a keen interest in other cultures and has always wanted to visit Australia to see the beautiful nature and beaches.
Marta is from Spain and lives on the island of Mallorca with her parents. She is an only child but has a lot of cousins in her extended family. Last year she completed her studies to become a teacher, with her final training taking place in Morocco. This was a life-changing experience for her and has inspired her to travel around the world helping children without easy access to education. She is planning to spend nine months in Australia and hopes to improve her English while meeting lots of people from all over the world and enjoying the beautiful environment of the country.
Kazuma is from Japan and is one of six in his family. He enjoys playing and watching sports, especially baseball, but is a bit disappointed that this is not played much in Australia! Instead, he is looking forward to learning how to surf and possibly making this his new favourite hobby. He decided to study at Lexis Byron Bay to improve his English because he wants to work as a nurse in Australia. For this he plans to study hard so that he can achieve a high score on the IELTS test. He also wants to be able to speak English well so he can communicate with others easily and enjoy his life here in Australia.
Sayuri is from Japan and is one of four in her family, including her mother, father and younger sister. She has been wanting to study English overseas for a while now so is very happy to be here! She likes swimming, walking, travelling and photography, and enjoys her annual trips to the beach with her family. She studied English for 12 weeks in the Philippines and, though she learnt a lot there, is now looking forward to building on that knowledge and improving her speaking and listening skills. She decided to study in Australia because she loves Summer, the sea and warm places, and because she wanted to experience living in another country.

Today at Coffee Lounge we played a game of Lexis Jenga to practice speaking English while enjoying coffee and TimTams!
The students are getting quite good at Jenga, building precarious towers but being very skilled at extracting the tiles without making it fall!
Eventually it gets to a point when it is impossible to remove any tiles without the whole thing collapsing, despite Maya’s efforts!
In the afternoon we had our coffee and TimTams over a game of Pictionary!
There were some interesting drawings, some incredible guesses and lots of laughter throughout the game. In the end, the team of Myuri and Mayumi won after leaping ahead by winning five rounds in a row!

Welcome to the seven new starters at Lexis Byron Bay this week!
Gaetan is from Switzerland and is one of four in his family, including his mother, father and brother. He likes riding bikes, playing video games and, above all, doing these things with friends and family. After high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic before then studying Engineering. He is now studying English in Australia to enjoy the sun and the beach before returning to Switzerland to do his time in the army. In the future he hopes to do a Masters in Mechanics.
Franny is originally from the Dominican Republic but she now lives in Switzerland. She is one of eight in her family, with her mother and two of her brothers also living in Switzerland, and her father, sister and two more brothers still living in the Dominican Republic. She enjoys learning and speaking different languages, going to the beach, playing sport and cooking. After completing her studies and then working for a year at a university, she decided to study English in Australia for a new experience. She will be with us at Lexis Byron Bay for three weeks before travelling for another month.
Beatrice is from Switzerland and is one of three siblings, with a sister and a brother. She loves music, playing sport and enjoying life as much as possible! She completed high school two years ago and is now a professional Skier. Skiing is her passion and also her job, but right now she is injured so decided to travel to Australia. She would like to improve her English and learn more about different people and cultures. After five weeks of studying at Lexis Byron Bay she will return home to begin her rehabilitation and hopefully her skiing comeback!
Estefania is from Spain and is one of four in her family, with her mother, father and younger brother, plus her grandmother who is like her second mum! She loves sports and usually starts the day with an early morning run. For the past ten years she has worked as a model and hostess which allowed her to meet a lot of interesting people from all around the world. Last year she started studying Interior Design and is now taking a break to improve her English and hopes to become fluent. She decided to study in Australia to discover another way of life while being able to continue enjoying her fit and healthy lifestyle.
Karla is from Brazil and lives with her parents and younger sister. She enjoys going to the beach and watching movies. She studied Advertising and has a postgraduate degree in Cultural Production, and is partway through a second postgraduate degree in Quality Management which she will complete when she returns to Brazil. She chose to study in Australia because it is a safe country with lots of beautiful nature. She also wanted to experience living in a small town, so different from her big city, which is why she came to Lexis Byron Bay.
Emiko is from Japan and is one of four in her family, including her mother, father and older sister. She also has a cute dog called Annie and some fish. She likes cooking, drawing, latte art and spending time relaxing. She studied English for two months in the Philippines and came here to continue improving her knowledge so that she can make friends with people from all over the world. She is looking forward to exploring the town of Byron Bay and hopes to find work in Australia, either here or in Brisbane. She also hopes to spend lots of time at the beach with friends making lots of wonderful memories of her time here!
Bruno is from Brazil and has a sister (who speaks English very well) and a lovely dog called Rocky. He decided to study in Australia because it is one of the few countries that allow you to work while you study and he also has a network of friends here. This afternoon we tasted a selection of beers from Australia, including a local Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, the famous Coopers Sparkling Ale and the “no hangover” low carb Pure Blonde.
Many of the students already had their favourites, having sampled a few beers already in their time in Byron Bay, but were more than happy to taste them again, along with a few new ones they hadn’t tried yet!
After tasting the seven different types of beers, everyone enjoyed finishing off the cold beers on such a hot, humid afternoon in Byron Bay.
The activity inevitably turned into a great socialising event. The students were quick to turn the US election updates into a drinking game while sharing many stories about their own governments, and Astrid also gave us her own rendition of ‘Happy Birthday‘ played by blowing over the beer bottle tops! 🙂

This morning we did some Boomerang Painting and learnt a little about Aboriginal Australia culture and art.
The students enjoyed the chance to get creative, using the examples of traditional Aboriginal art including the symbols used for goanna and kangaroo tracks and the method of dot painting.
They also took advantage of the opportunity to practice speaking English during the activity, talking about boomerangs, the innate artistic ability that every person has, languages from around the world and the different dialects and accents in different locations. It was a relaxing activity and a perfect way to chill out on the morning after Student Night at Cheeky Monkeys!

At the morning session we played a game of Aussie Heads while enjoying our coffee and TimTams. The students were given a mystery card to stick on their forehead and had to ask questions to work out what place, object, sport or animal they were. Some were quite easy to figure out, like kangaroo and Lexis Byron Bay. Others were more difficult and required some prior knowledge of Australia, such as didgeridoo and TimTams! Either way, it was a good chance to practice speaking and learn some new English words.
In the afternoon we drank coffee and ate TimTams over a game of Uno. There was some fierce competition to start, with Yuki and then Astrid winning the game quickly, followed slowly by the rest of us! With students from all over the world playing, there were a few differences in the rules that each player uses. For example, how many cards do you pick up if you forget to say ‘uno’ when you have only one card left – one, two or seven? Compromises were made quickly and the game continued on in the same friendly but competitive nature that it started in!

Last Friday afternoon Josie’s Cambridge FCE class had an excursion to the local Stone & Wood Brewery in Byron Bay as a reward for all their hard work in class.
It was also a great opportunity to practice their English skills, particularly their listening skills as they were told about the different types of beers they were sampling on the tasting paddles. The class enjoyed the local brews and having a lesson at a brewery!

Welcome to the ten new starters at Lexis Byron Bay this week!
Sandro is from Switzerland and lives with his family in Zurich. His family consists of his mother, father and sister. He enjoys playing soccer for his local club and works for the Swiss postal service. He decided to study English at Lexis Byron Bay after his sister visited Byron Bay and told him how wonderful the town is. He will be in Australia for the next three months before returning to Switzerland to do his military service.
Michelle is from the beautiful city of Zurich in Switzerland. She is an only child and likes to draw, read books and spend time with friends. She works as a Draughtsperson and Site Manager for an architecture company. She decided to study English in Australia because her aunty lives here, in the Mount Burrell area between Nimbin and Uki, and has spent the past two weeks with her there. She plans to stay in Byron Bay for the next three months before travelling around Australia.
Delphine is from Switzerland and is the middle child, with an older brother and a younger sister. She enjoys spending time with friends and keeping active with crossfit, running and cycling. She works as a Secretary for a food company in Switzerland. Ten years ago she lived in Germany so that she could learn German which she needs for her job. She has always dreamed of visiting Australia which is why she decided to study English here, and chose Byron Bay for the small town and open space. She hopes to do a little bit of travel after her studies to see the Australian lifestyle and to learn how to surf.
Maxime is from Switzerland and is the youngest of four brothers in his family. He has a lot of hobbies, one of which is playing soccer for a local team. He studied at High School for three years but found it very boring and felt it seemed more like ten years! He came to study in Australia so that he could improve his English to help with travelling and because he wants to become a teacher when he returns home.
Rosa is from Spain and is one of five in her family including her mother, father and two younger brothers. She is originally from Valencia but has lived in Ibiza for the past three years. She likes animals, gastronomy, sports and history. She came to Australia to learn English and chose Byron Bay for the beautiful beaches and people. She hopes to improve her English so that she can work here and in other cities that she visits as a tourist.
Alejandra is from Spain and lives in Ibiza. She is youngest of three siblings, with her parents and brother living in Castellon and her sister living in Valencia. She works as a Physiotherapist and would like to study to become a Personal Trainer. She loves playing sports, cooking, reading about nutrition and medicine, nature and films. She decided to study English in Australia because it is the most difficult accent for her to understand and chose to live in Byron Bay because it is quite similar to Ibiza. She plans to find a job and a place to live here in Byron Bay and hopes to stay for a year so that she can learn as much English as possible!
Barbara is from Brazil and is one of six siblings in her family, with her four sisters and one brother. She lives in her own place and has two cats who she loves! She works as a Branch Manager for an Education Agency and her job is to help students who want to study abroad. She chose to come to Australia so that she could use her holidays to study English while also enjoying the beaches and atmosphere of this amazing country. She hopes to improve her English while she is here as she uses the language a lot at work. In the future she plans to take an English exam such as Cambridge CAE or IELTS.
Yurina is from Japan and is one of five in her family, including her mother, father, brother and sister. She enjoys watching movies. She came to Australia to study English because she wants to improve her speaking skills. She hopes to work in Australia but wants to improve her English so that one day she can speak more fluently.
Emi is from Japan and lives with her mother, brother and grandmother. After her father passed away one year ago, she decided to do the many things that she wants to try in life. She loves travelling, in Japan with her family and overseas. She also likes playing sports such as basketball, tennis and yoga. She works as a banker and enjoys talking with her customers and helping them plan for their financial future. She enjoys studying and learning new things, and decided to study English so that she can talk with people from all over the world. She likes the Australian people, the warm weather and would like to visit Ayers Rock which is why she decided to study English in Australia.
Shirori is from Japan. She studied English at Lexis Perth for four weeks before transferring to Byron Bay to see the other side of the country. She hopes to improve her English and is looking forward to her time in Byron Bay!

Today we got into the kitchen to bake some Anzac Biscuits!
These Australian cookies originated approximately 100 years ago and were created to be sent overseas to soldiers at war. The biscuits contain ingredients that don’t spoil easily and the cookies, once baked and cooled, become hard and crunchy – and delicious!
After following the recipe to prepare the mixture, the biscuits only need about ten minutes to bake. Then, the hardest part of the whole process, you need to wait for the cookies to cool before eating them if you want to experience the delightful crunch that Anzac biscuits are known for!
If you want to try making these at home, here is the recipe:
ANZAC BISCUITS
2 cups rolled oats 1 cup plain flour 2/3 cup sugar 3/4 cup desiccated coconut 1/3 cup golden syrup 125g butter 1 teaspoon bicarb soda 3 tablespoons boiling water
Preheat oven to 160°C.
Place the oats, flour, sugar and coconut in a bowl and mix to combine.
Melt the butter and golden syrup together in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.
Combine the bicarb soda with the water and then add to the butter mixture.
Pour butter mixture into the oat mixture, and mix together until well combined.
Place a large spoonful of the mixture onto baking trays lined with baking paper. Flatten to 7cm rounds and make sure there is room between each cookie for them to spread while baking.
Bake for 8-10 minutes until golden in colour.
Allow to cool on baking trays for 5 minutes then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Eat them and enjoy this tasty Australian treat!

She has made great improvements to her English writing and grammar skills, and her confidence in speaking has grown over the twelve weeks she has spent at Lexis Byron Bay. Chiara is from Belgium and graduates from Claudia’s Upper Intermediate class. She studied at Lexis Byron Bay on the English in Action – Surfing course, learning English in the morning and getting surf lessons with Let’s Go Surfing in the afternoon! She is a very diligent and hardworking student who has been a pleasure to have in class. She brings great enthusiasm to the class and valued contributions to discussions. She is persistent and conscientious in her learning, which will help her to continue improving her English. We wish you all the best for your future!
Leo is from Germany and graduates from Kathleen’s Intermediate class. Over her four weeks at Lexis Byron Bay she has worked well to gain a good, solid knowledge of her vocabulary and grammar. She also has a high level of English writing skills and is able to converse fluently with other students. Her positive attitude and active participation in class was highly valued. Haru is from Japan and graduates from Kathleen’s Intermediate class. She is one of the most diligent students that her teacher has ever had the pleasure of teaching! Her hard worked has paid off – in only 16 weeks at Lexis Byron Bay she has progressed from Elementary class through to Intermediate, and graduates with an ‘A’ grade. Her knowledge of grammar and vocabulary is very strong and she has made outstanding progress in her speaking skills. Good luck in your job search and we hope to see you around Byron Bay!

Today we held two Table Tennis Tournaments – one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The morning tournament was won by defending morning Champion, Othman! He had some good competition but came through to win the TimTams!!
The afternoon tournament had a lot of close matches with some excellent, long rallies. Special mention about the match between Lear and Charlotte, who have played against each other 27 times in the last couple of days and had some epic rallies!
There were a couple of players defending or trying to reclaim their titles from previous months. In the end, Roman was the winner, defending his title from the last tournament!

We had two sessions of Coffee Lounge today – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. At the morning session, we played Aussie Heads which requires asking questions to discover the identity of the card stuck to your forehead!
It is a great game to help practice English by both asking questions, giving clues to other players, and guessing the right English word for your card. Everyone did really well with asking the right questions to discover their identity, even with the more difficult cards such as ‘Aussie Dollar’, ‘Great Barrier Reef’ and ‘Sandcastle’.
In the afternoon we played Lexis Jenga, which is just like normal Jenga but with a question written on each tile which the student answered when they had pulled it out.
The questions help the students to learn some more English words and phrases, and encourage speaking to explain their answers. It is also a great game to help get to know each other – today we found out that Myuri likes to dance in the shower, Mayumi’s favourite movie is Titanic, and Yuki would make everyone visit Japan if he ruled the world!
