From February 22nd, students will be able to study Business and TESOL programs at Lexis. These courses will run from 2pm to 7.30pm on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with optional Supervised Consolidation of Learning class available each Thursday.
Our Business and TESOL programs are fully accredited for student visas, and are ideal for students finishing their English program at Lexis and looking for a further challenge while they extend their stay in Noosa, Byron Bay or the Sunshine Coast.
To enter the Certificate III in Business, you will need to have an Intermediate level of English at Lexis, or an equivalent IELTS score of 5. For the Certificate IV in TESOL, you will need to be in Upper Intermediate, or at a 6-6.5 IELTS equivalent.
To launch our new courses, we are offering our current students an opening special for the 30 week Certificate III in Business – $3000, including all registration and materials fees. The usual price for this course will be $4500.
We had some delicious smells coming from the kitchen this afternoon as part 2 of the Lexis Bake-Off took place. Rina, Sonya and Corine baked 2 batches of biscuits – the first plain and the second with chocolate and coconut.
Today’s activity was a Lexis Bake-Off! This morning, Erik, Lulu and Marie competed against Carmen and Desiree…
Erik’s team made crepes with jam and decorations, while Carmen and Desiree made chocolate and coconut cupcakes.
Julie, Aurelie and Quentin were our judges and although they were impressed by both teams’ efforts, they decided that Carmen and Desiree’s cupcakes were best!

Tuesday evenings mean only one thing here at Lexis Byron Bay – student night at Cheeky Monkey’s! Our students enjoyed another fun-filled evening of food, drinks, dancing, playing pool and chatting. It was a great opportunity for our new starters to get to know everyone and it was lovely to have some of our recent graduates back in town too.
Many of our new students joined us for Coffee Club today, so we sat out in the garden and enjoyed coffee, Tim Tams and the word game “Aussie Heads”. Sofia and Alida had particularly difficult words to guess – “wave” and “sandcastle”. Corine did very well and managed to guess 3 words during the game! Everyone who guessed their word won a special caramel Tim Tam.
We have 5 new starters today at Lexis Byron Bay, plus Dmitrii who actually started last week.
Carlos is from Mexico and here in Byron Bay he works in a Mexican restaurant. He enjoys salsa dancing and hopes to go to the Gold Coast after his time in Byron.

Alex is from Spain, where he works as a firefighter. His goal in Australia is to improve his English because sometimes he needs to use English in his job. He thinks Byron Bay is the best town in Australia for him because he loves surfing and he plans to stay here for 4-6 months.
Corine is from Switzerland and in her spare time she likes to do things with her friends and siblings, such as going to concerts or dancing salsa. She has always wanted to travel to Australia because her parents stayed in Australia when they were younger and Corine fell in love with their photographs.
Rina is from Japan and she’s in her last year of university there studying International Relations. She enjoys sports and in her free time she loves going to the beach and socialising. She absolutely loves Australia and when she was younger she went to school in Adelaide for a year, so she is happy to be back here again.
Dmitrii is from Russia and he likes to practice yoga every day and swim. He has worked as a cook and a yoga teacher. He chose Australia for the good environment and he likes Byron Bay because there are not many Russians, so it is great for improving his English.
On Friday morning we went to the Byron Bay library to get some information and have a look at the different kinds of books. It was a cloudy but hot morning! We had the opportunity to borrow books and to become members of the library.
In the library, there are different kinds of books or example about science and technology, sport and recreation, travel and lots more.
We had a lovely morning together, reading books about countries and debating about them. Thanks Julia for this.
Some of the students joined the library’s membership so they can borrow a book for three weeks.
We were all really tired because of the hot temperatures at night nobody got enough sleep.
Bloody good morning in the library!
We enjoyed the morning in the library, the children’s section especially attracted many of us as it revived our childhood memories.
Our morning activity today was soccer and burgers! Many of our afternoon students (plus a few recent graduates) played a soccer match in the garden and afterwards, the students enjoyed a burger before their classes began for the day.
Only 3 students are graduating this week – Kana, Ai and Tanja. They all graduate at Pre-Intermediate level.
Kana and Ai are from Japan and their teacher Kathleen says they have been lovely students and have worked hard during their time here. Tanja is from Switzerland and although she has only been here for 2 weeks, she has been a smiley face around school and has joined in with our afternoon activities.
Goodbye and good luck to you all, enjoy the rest of your time in Australia! 🙂

Friday was a good news day when November’s FCE and CAE candidates received their results. Here at Lexis Byron Bay, we were extremely pleased with the results.
In CAE 91% of students scored an A,B or C grade and, across two FCE classes, the pass rate was 87%. What’s more, even the students who scored B2 (CAE) or B1 (FCE) should still be extremely proud as the majority of them showed great improvement on their pre-test results.
Well done to all the students and to their teachers: Julia, Paul and Josie.

Fiona is from Switzerland too and arrived on Saturday and is going to stay in Australia for three months. She has never been to Australia before. She has just one brother, who is 21, and she gets well with their family. She loves every kind of sports. She likes comedy movies.
Fabian is from Switzerland and has one brother. He arrived 5 days ago in Brisbane and travelled to Surfers by bus. He is going to stay 6 months in Australia. The difference between Australia and Switzerland is the weather and the sea. He thinks that people are more friendly here than in his home country. He likes playing the guitar and complex movies and, here in Australia, he is a surfer.
Sonya lives in Japan but comes from Korea. She’s been in Australia for five days and will stay here for 10 weeks. She has already spent two days in Brisbane. The differences between here and her country are the weather (more tropical in Australia) and the people, who are more relaxed here. She has a big family on her mother’s side. In fact her mom has seven siblings and she gets along really well with all of them because they live close to each other. She has also one brother. During her free time she likes to watch TV drama. She also likes to watch comedy action movies. She’s already been to bars and restaurants in Byron and her favourite one is the Beach Hotel.
Sammy comes from Korea. She has been here in Byron Bay for three weeks. She stays at Lexis school until March. She has already travelled on the east coast like Noosa, Gold Coast, Sydney. She enjoys the good weather that is sunnier here than in her country, which is in winter. Sammy has a brother and a sister. She feels close to them even if they have been living separately during long time. Watching YouTube and American series take up her free time. She likes lots of different film styles especially comedy or science fiction. Sammy enjoys going out in Byron Bay at night. She goes to Cheeky Monkey, Buddha Bar and Railway Bar but the best one in her opinion is the Buddha Bar.
Thoai-Tam is from Switzerland. He has been in Australia for three days, going to stay for 10 weeks. He hasn’t travelled in Australia yet. Main differences between his country and Australia is the weather. And Australia has a more relaxed ambiance. He has a big family with more than 15 cousins, they gather twice a year. He likes reading manga, taking a nap, doing sports when he has free time. Also he enjoys action movies. He hasn’t been in any bars or restaurants in Byron Bay yet.
Celine is from Switzerland. She can play tennis very well. She has been playing for eight years. She likes comedy films and, in Byron Bay, she loves Buddha Bar.
Lisa is also from Switzerland. She has a younger brother, mum and dad. She likes films that touch her with meaning and she loves surfing. She thinks Australia is different from Switzerland because the weather is different and people are more relaxed here.
It’s going to be a lovely sunny weekend, with temperatures around 26 degrees during the day and 18 degrees at night. A perfect weekend for spending time at the beach or exploring Byron Bay!

We had one of our famous Lexis Table Tennis Tournaments this afternoon!
As always the players were very competitive… Angela surprised everyone with her fantastic skills and gave Raphael a run for his money! It was a close match, but Rapha won and made it to the final with Lucas.
There was a lot of tension during the final match but eventually Raphael was victorious yet again! At least this time we divided up the prizes, so Angela, Lucas and Raphael were all prize winners 🙂

Julia’s CAE Class – Andrea, Noelle, Fredy, Cedric, Cristian, Nikos, Lucas, Aline, Estelle, Tamara, Natascha, Naomi and Unai
Aline is from Switzerland like most of us here. In her hometown her bigger sister keeps her fingers crossed that she will return well in 4 months and enjoy her time in Australia and New Zealand. Aline likes to do sport activities in her free time and go to the beach and take a swim in the sea. In a regular day she returns to her host’s house in Sunrise.
Estelle is from Switzerland, she is 19 (almost 20) years old and has one older sister and two younger brothers. She finished school and is now in Australia since October (2015). Estelle likes to read books, going out with friends, spending time on the beach.
If Cristian had 8 fingers, he’d invent a guitar for people with 2 fingers less. Well now not saying any name but what Christian regrets most was going out with this one girl, that was really awkward. So obviously Cristian seems to be into music and if he had to do a tattoo right now it would most probably be a guitar.
Her name is Natascha but her friends just call her Nat or Natti. The most embarassing thing she did in her life is that she was walking around topless in South America while she was very drunk. She’s not looking for a boyfriend here in Australia she will just enjoy her stay here. And she is totally being drunk at “Cheeky Monkey’s” tonight but she won’t drink any alcohol of course.
Tamara is Spanish but lives in Switzerland and she is 25. She likes listening to music and going out with friends and she came to Australia to improve her English and have fun while travelling.
Lucas is from Belgium and study there, likes playing tennis in Belgium and surfing here in Byron Bay. He has one younger sister. He is 18 years old and when he goes back to Belgium he will begin to study business.
Naomi is a 21 year old girl from, as you guess, Switzerland. She works as a secretary in an office. She has just been here for a couple of days but she already enjoys Byron Bay. She likes riding a bike so I’m sure she will enjoy her way back home to Suffolk Park!
Cedric is 20 years old and comes from Switzerland, more precisely from Zurich. In his leisure time he likes to play soccer or other sports outdoors. Cedric has got a little sister and an older brother. He will stay at school for 2.5 months and then travel for 3.5 months. After that he’ll go to university to study informatics.
Noelle is from Switzerland in the Basel-Landschaft region. She visits the CAE here in Byron to improve her English skills and to know new people and make new friends. I asker her if she’s religious and she told me that she went as a child to the church but no more today, after the confirmation. She plays the piano and volley, but also likes soccer and other sports in general.
Ardit is from Switzerland and he is going to be a chemistry student. He loves to listen to music, especially jazz and classical music. He likes to go out with his friends and he practices iaido. He has one sister who is working as a primary teacher.
If Nikos would have 8 fingers, that would change dramatically his life because he wants to become a dentist or carpenter. One day in the other set he would go out and let her spend some drinks.
Fredy comes from Switzerland, he is from the Swiss German part. His birthday is the 27th of May. He has two jobs, he’s working in product management in a medical technology business company. He enjoys Byron Bay, but he was disappointed about the fact that half of the school is from Switzerland. He likes the Railway pub because there is plenty of good beer there.
Today I met Andrea who was asking me what I would do with 8 fingers. If I just had known that she isn’t doing Ramadan and that she’s a serious person. It was really interesting that the story behind her family name was the source. Of course it’s not the source to the universe but it’s the translation of it.
Unai is Spanish and 19 years old. He’s studying and working here in Byron Bay. His hobbies are surfing, playing the guitar, drinking beer and listening to music. He has a 15 year old sister.
This afternoon we had a big BBQ to welcome all of our new students! The sun was shining and it was a great chance for everyone to meet each other and chat while enjoying some delicious BBQ food.
