After our short week this week (two days for me – I think I have forgotten how to do my job!) – we come once again to the weekend!
The Alliance Française French Film Festival starts tonight with an opening gala – highlights of the festival include Suzanne, Folies Bergère and Tour de Force – buy tickets from http://www.palacecinemas.com.au/festivals/afffbyronbay14/
Also tonight – comedy at the Northern and Australiana with Cockatoo Paul at the Byron Bay Brewery.
Friday is ANZAC day!! So make sure that you make the most of it and eat lots of Anzac cookies and play 2up (the only day that its legal in Australia). If you’re interested – an Anzac service will be taking place at 5.30am at the Memorial Gates on the corner of Marvell and Tennyson Streets – breakfast is available at the RSL afterwards. There is also a march from 10.30am from opposite the Beach Hotel… If you are in Byron this weekend then do try to get involved – its a great quintessential Aussie experience!
Lots of live music on Friday – local band Wandering Eyes are playing a show at the Northern on Friday night – tickets are $10 and they are supported by another Byron band called Vernas Keep. This is Wandering Eyes last local show in a while, so come give them your support!
Also Melbourne all girl band Stonefield are playing at the Beachy on Froday from 9pm – these guys are great if you haven’t already seen them!! https://soundcloud.com/stonefield
Frothing on Fridays at the Ginger Pig on Friday – this night has been going from strength to strength recently. Both original resident DJs are back – with DJ HA!YES! having been playing down at Spot X surf camp and Ant On Leaf at the Rabbits Eat Lettuce festival near Coffs Harbour. $10 cocktails, $5 Coopers and awesome music!
Soul’d at the Rails, Boom Faya at the Brewery and Bobby Alu at the Bruns Hotel from 4pm.
On Saturday – the infamous Byron Vibes returns to the Buddha Bar! Tickets are $15 and include a download of the first Byron Vibes compilation album – lots of awesome bands including The Badlands headlining!
Also on Saturday – Rhythm and Cutloose DJs at the Beachy, Salmonella Dub Soundsystem at the Northern, The Simon Wright Band at the Rails and Guy Kachel at the Soho Lounge.
Plenty going on this Sunday as well – Late for Woodstock are at the Beachy on Sunday from 4pm if you fancy an arvo Sunday session – followed by Sammy 2 Towels at 8pm. Gloryhammer & Largerstein are at the Northern, and Paul Woseen at the Rails. The Buddha Bar are also hosting a Tango Argentine session from 6pm as well if you want to throw on your dancing shoes.
Have a great weekend folks and see you all on Monday! xo
