What’s on in Byron this weekend!!!

Another big weekend in Byron Bay!

The Internet weatherman is forecasting rain and cloud for this weekend – which means that we will have to rely on live music, beer and movies for fun! Luckily there is always plenty of that going around.

If you want to escape the rain – perhaps Island Vibe Festival is the answer! Up in Queensland on the amazing North Stradbroke Island – Island Vibe is a multi-faceted celebration of Island Culture that includes art exhibitions, interactive workshops, stalls, circus, eco-food and craft markets. Four stages and over 50 mighty reggae, roots, soul and electronic acts – including Murri and Pacific Islander dance and cultural groups – gather on Minjerribah for a celebration of music, dance, art and culture. Go to http://www.islandvibe.com.au/tickets for ticket info, or head to Three Worlds on Fletcher Street to buy yours!

If camping up in Queensland is a bit too much of a commitment for you, you can still join in the Island Vibe festivities by coming to Byron Brewery’s Island Vibe Festival Pre-Party on Friday night at 8pm!!

The Brewery is also playing host to the Rockabilly Festival this weekend – on both Saturday and Sunday, with performances by The Sugar Shakers, Corn Liquor, DJs Hepcat and Jimmy D. There are also 1960s go-go dancers, burlesque and a pin up girls fashion parade. It all kicks off at Saturday from 7pm and Sunday from 2pm – and its free!!!!

Saturday also sees The Rusty Datsuns playing at the Treehouse On Belongil – offering a fresh take on modern folk, with a healthy dose of bluegrass! They have been inciting hoedowns all over the country since forming in the unlikely circumstances of the 2011 Brisbane floods. Don’t miss this chance to see them!

The Vampires are playing their rich twist on piano-less jazz quartets at the Bangalow Bowling Club on Sunday – mixing jazz with reggae and Afro beat. Tickets are $15 at the door and they will bejoined by renowned Northern Rovers saxophonist David Ades and percussionist Greg Sheehan.

Enjoy another fantastic weekend in the Bay!!

Feeling proud of our students here at Lexis | Byron Bay this week!!!!

We have a few reasons to be proud of our students here at Lexis English | Byron Bay this week!!

First up, our Pre-Intermediate students made us an awesome promo video which is up in our Facebook group!! Go to the Lexis English Byron Bay group to see our students share their favourite things about studying here at Lexis and in the beautiful Byron Bay – no traffic signals was an unexpected highlight!

The English Only policy has been rolled out on the grounds in force, with Lisa policing the school vigilantly!

Below is Elena Bertoli’s 150 words on immersing yourself fully in the English language!

001

“I think that full immersion English is an efficient and effective way of improving my English; spoken and written.

Lexis School has an English only policy – this means I must not speak my native language while I’m at the school.

I think that the main benefit of a full immersion English is that I am totally surrounded by the country, the atmosphere and the language. It’s better for me to have constant English conversations with my teachers and classmates. I’m looking for a job, and if I always speak only English I can improve my skills much more quickly.

English is important for work, and it is essential for daily life. The English Only policy is a great incentive to help the students make friends around the school. As a result to speak only English at school I met a lot of people from other countries. I spend most of my time with my classmates and I can see my improvement.
