On Friday, 28th October 2011, Jason Clark from Australian Vintage Wines came to Lexis English Byron Bay to share his skills, knowledge and wines from Australian Vintage Wines. Students and staff had an entertaining and informative afternoon learning about the various wine growing regions throughout Australia. We also enjoyed tasting all the beautiful varieties Jason brought along for us to sample.

Style Surfing Byron Bay . . .

On Thursday 20th October students were taken on a surfing adventure with Gaz, from Style Surfing Byron Bay . . . the surf was fairly good, although there was a stronger current than on previous days. The students enjoyed their surfing and are all hooked on this amazing and healthy lifestyle sport!

Gaz even described some of them as ‘shredding!’

What a cook-up! After a long long wait we all finally got to taste a bit of Sicily when Italian student Nicola cooked us all a magnificent pasta dish on Tuesday.

The next cooking activity will be on 4th November! Swiss maybe?

LABYRINTH MAKING @ CLARKE’S BEACH WEDNESDAY 12 OCTOBER … as the sun set over beautiful Clarke’s Beach, students and their Homestay families were taught how to build a stunning sand Labyrinth …

Finally we got to go SURFING with STYLE SURFING BYRON BAY. The conditions were finally PERFECT for our lesson, smooth glassy ocean, no wind and small, almost perfectly formed rolling waves allowed us to surf @ The PASS! Whilst Gaz our trusted surf instuctor is away surfing Indonesian barrels, we were left in the hands of Marky and Adam, who proved to be excellent, patient, fun teachers! The students, along with teacher Andrew and Michelle had an awesome afternoon. We are all looking forward to the weekend to show off our new and improved surfing skills!

“Circular Rhythm” came to Lexis Byron Bay on Wednesday 5th October and put on an interactive Indigenous Cultural / Educational display for the students and staff.

Lexis Byron Bay visited a local Byron shire attraction on Thursday 22nd September 2011: The Macadamia Castle! A group of 12 students, plus Michelle and Vee (our trusted driver) had a great afternoon wandering through the native gardens, feeding an abundance of native birds and viewing a variety of native and farm animals and snakes and reptiles. The most fun was had when we all had the chance to pick up the baby chickens (chicks) and the baby rabbits (bunnies). We also got to see an Eastern Brown Snake – one of the most deadly in the entire world and see some Kangaroos amongst the trees.
